Chapter 159
Julie
“T–Troy?” I said the moment I saw him standing outside my doom my eyes going wide. My voice sounded thin to me. I tightened my grip on the towel around my body without thinking. His eyes dropped from my face to the towel, to my legs, hands, and then slowly moved back up again. The way he looked at me made my skin feel hot. I felt as if he was seeing everything I was trying to hide. I flushed till my neck. Inside me Lucere again perked up.
Without another word, I pushed the door shut in his face. “Shit! I muttered.
My heart was beating too fast as I hurried to my room. I pulled on my pajamas and a tank top. My hands shook as I tied my hair in a messy bun while going back to the door. Then I took a deep breath and opened it again.
Troy was still there. He had not moved an inch. His body was rigid, his jaw tight, and his between us was thick with so much tension that it could be cut with a knife.
eyes dark with anger. The air
Without saying anything, he just stood there, his fists clenched so tightly that I could see the veins in his arms pop.
I swallowed and licked my lips nervously. A blush spread across my cheeks as I stood there in front of him, not knowing what to do with my hands or where to look. A small shiver ran through me because of the way he was watching me, with a mix of fury and something else I could not name.
“Why… why are you here?” I asked finally, breaking the silence.
His eyes narrowed at once, and his voice came out sharp. “How could you come out of the pack lands when there is an advisory against it?” he demanded. “Do you have any idea what you were doing? How could you put your wolf in danger like that?”
My face drained of color. “I didn’t know,” I said quickly. “No one told me. If I had known, I would never have gone into the forest.”
“How could you not know?” he growled. When I shrugged, he shut his eyes and took a long breath, as if he was forcing himself to calm down. When he opened them again, his voice was rougher. “Since you’ve created that ruckus, you can’t stay alone in this apartment anymore.”
I blinked, confused. “Why?”
“Because the rogues have seen your wolf,” he replied. “They now know what she is. They know she is the Luna of this pack. That makes you their first target if they want to weaken us.”
Memories of what happened during the fight flooded. Was it possible that there were other rogues around us to see Luecere? Because we had killed the two who attacked us. Did they see how Noir dropped the body of another rogue like an offering? Only Alpha did that to his Luna.
Fear slid through me. I crossed my arms over my chest. “I can take care of myself,” I said, trying to sound confident. “You saw what I did out there.”
Furious, his hand slammed against the door frame so suddenly that I jumped. “Your strength is not what I am talking about,” he said harshly. “This is about pack safety. And whether you like it or not, as the “forced” Luna, it’s your duty to understand your place in this situation. Now that rogues have recognized your wolf, you don’t get to decide alone anymore.”
I winced, his words hurting me. I bit my lip because I knew he was right. I lowered my head and nodded slowly. “Then I will move in with my parents tomorrow.”
His answer came at once. “No.”
I looked up in shock. “What?”

“No, that is not an option!” he explained. “You have to move in with me.”
My mouth fell open. I collected my thoughts. “What?”
“This is the only option left,” he said in a flat voice. “But it is necessary. Your room is already being prepared.”
I stared at him, unable to speak for a few seconds. My heart dropped into my stomach. “You decided this without asking me? I won’t move in with you!”
“I am your Alpha,” he retorted. “I don’t need permission when pack safety is involved.”
I wanted to argue, wanted to shout, wanted to tell him that he could go and fuck himself. But my voice failed me. All I could do was stand there, breathing slowly and trying to keep my eyes from filling with tears. He wanted me in his home because of the pack’s safety. Not once because we were married. Well, what could I expect from him?
“So I have no choice,” I said quietly.
“You don’t,” he answered.
Silence fell between us again. I had worked so hard to keep distance between us, to keep my emotions contained. Why was I being pulled straight back into his world? I was going to double my efforts in building walls around my heart.
“When?” I asked.
“Tonight,” he said. “I won’t leave you here alone. Pack up. I’m waiting.”
I stepped back into my apartment and packed a few essential items as Troy waited at the door like a sentinel. When I finished, I came out. “I’m ready.”
The drive to his house was silent. Neither of us spoke. When we reached his house, he opened the door and stepped aside for me to enter first. Inside, everything smelled like him. Pine and earth. And Millie. I forced myself to stay calm.
“This is your room,” he said, pointing to a door down the hall. “You will be escorted by guards everywhere you go.”
“I don’t need guards in the pack lands!”
