THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son novel Chapter 127

Chapter 127

“Who sent you?” she asked quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Mose didn’t speak. Instead, he looked at her in a way that made her blood run cold, a look that said the answer was more complicated than she wanted to know.

Mia noticed the expression immediately. She stood up slowly, looking between Mose and Stefan, searching their faces for answers. Something in their shared glance told her everything and nothing at the same time.

“Who sent him?” she asked Stefan, turning to face him fully.

Stefan remained silent, his jaw tight. He met her gaze but offered no response.

“Was it you?” she asked, pointing directly at Stefan. “Did you order this?”

Stefan still didn’t answer. He simply raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable.

He’d ordered people to be killed before, it came with the territory of their world. But hearing Mia suspect him of this particular act, seeing the fear and accusation in her eyes, pricked something deep in his chest.

“You sent him to murder a Santiago,” she said, and the fear was written all over her face now. Her voice trembled slightly as the full weight of what this meant settled in.

Stefan opened his mouth to speak, but Mia shut him up with a sharp raise of her hand.

“We don’t have time for this,” she said, her voice steadier now but still strained. “Our lives are in danger. Elena’s in danger. We need to find a way to get out of this mess before the Santiagos come for all of us.” She said walking to sit she stood up from.

Stefan said nothing but nodded his head in agreement. She was right, explanations could wait. Survival couldn’t.

Mose sat with a raised eyebrow, staring at Stefan with a surprised look but remained silent. He’d expected Stefan to correct Mia’s assumption, to set the record straight. The fact that he didn’t spoke volumes.

The tension in the room think and unspoken before Stefan finally spoke. “Do…. you want me to…… excuse you? I’ll be outside.” he asked quietly.

Mia’s head shot up abruptly. “Why?” she asked, confusion replacing some of the fear in her voice.

“I figured you’d be angry and hate me for causing Elena pain,” Stefan said, his voice unusually vulnerable. “For putting you all in this position.”

“What? No. No.” Mia shook her head emphatically as she stood up and walked toward him. “Why would I hate you? I can’t hate you, Stefan.” She took a deep breath and rubbed her hand in her face.

“Whatever happened was years ago, and I know you’ve changed.” She reached for his hands, holding them tightly. “You don’t act without good reason. Mose was hurt too, and you care about him a lot. I’ll never blame you. Any of you.”

She kissed his lips softly, and Mose turned his face away, feeling like he was interrupting an intimate moment.

Stefan was genuinely surprised by Mia’s reaction. He’d braced himself for anger, accusations, maybe even her walking away. He’d never expected this level of understanding and support.

“I need to use the restroom,” Mia said after a moment, needing a few minutes to process everything. “I’ll be right back.”

As soon as she left the room, Mose walked up to Stefan, his expression serious.

“Why did you lie to her?” Mose asked quietly.

“I didn’t lie,” Stefan replied, but his voice lacked conviction.

Mose looked at him steadily. “Okay, then why didn’t you correct her when she thought you were behind the assassination?”

Stefan was quiet for a long moment, staring at the floor. When he finally spoke, his voice was heavy. “What was I supposed to say? Tell her it was her father who ordered the killing?”

Mose didn’t say anything immediately. He understood the impossible position Stefan was in. It would break Mia’s heart to learn that her own father had put a hit on a Santiago family member, setting off this chain of deadly events.

“She’ll find out eventually,” Mose said finally.

“Maybe. But not today. Not when she’s already dealing with Elena being hurt and all of us being in danger.” They stood in silence until Mia returned, looking more composed but still shaken.

“We need to get to work,” she said, all business now. “We need to figure out how to reach the Santiagos, how to negotiate some kind of peace before this escalates further.”

Over the next few hours, they made calls and sent messages through various channels, trying to establish contact with the Santiago family. It was dangerous territory, one wrong word could be seen as further provocation.

As evening approached, Mia announced she wanted to stay with Elena through the night.

“I’ll have security posted outside,” Stefan said, kissing her goodbye. “Call me if anything changes.”

Mose only stared at Elena for a long moment before leaving with Stefan. There was something in his expression that Mia couldn’t quite read, but she didn’t have time to analyze it now.

Elena woke up the next morning while Mia was dozing in the chair beside her bed. The first thing Elena saw was her friend’s concerned face, and despite everything, she managed a weak smile.

“Hey,” she whispered, her voice hoarse.

“Elena!” Mia was instantly alert, calling for the doctor. “Oh thank God, you’re awake. How do you feel?”

“I’m….. Hmmmm” she cleared her voice, “I’m fine. I just need water, my throat feels dry..” she said trying to get up.

After a thorough examination, the doctor pronounced Elena stable but insisted she stay for another week for

observation.

Her head injury had been more serious than initially thought, and they needed to monitor ber for any complications.

Three days passed after Elena woke up. Stefan and Mia visited regularly, bringing flowers, books, and updates on their progress with the Santiago situation. But Mose never came.

Every time Stefan and Mia arrived, Elena would ask about him. Stefan would make excuses, Mose was busy, he was following leads, he was working on their safety. But Elena could see through the explanations.

Each day, Elena would turn toward the door hopefully whenever she heard footsteps in the hallway. Each time, disappointment would flash across her face when it wasn’t Mose walking through.

“Why won’t he come?” Elena asked Mia on the third day.

Mia didn’t know what to say. She’d asked Stefan the same question, and he’d simply said that Mose was dealing with things in his own way.

On the fourth day, after much persuasion from Stefan, Mose finally agreed to visit Elena. But when he arrived at her room, his expression was serious, almost cold. Gone was the warmth she’d grown accustomed to seeing in his eyes.

“Elena,” he said formally, standing near the door as if he might bolt at any moment.

“Mose,” she said, her face lighting up despite his distant demeanor. “I’ve been waiting for you to visit.”

“I’ve been busy,” he said curtly. “There’s a lot to handle with the Santiago situation.”

Elena nodded, sensing something was wrong but not sure what. “I understand. I’m just glad you’re here now.”
