Chapter 134
Everything changed the day Sienna came to visit. She’d just returned from one of her travels, it was a surprise
visit.
Mose was in the living room reading when Sienna burst through the front door with her usual dramatic act.
“Bro! I’m home!” she called out, dropping her bags in the entrance hall.
James looked up from his book, and Elena watched as his entire face changed. His eyes widened, his mouth fell open slightly, and for the first time since he had returned, he looked truly interested in something
“Who is that?” he asked Elena, who happened to be sitting nearby.
“That’s Sienna, Stefan’s sister,” Elena replied, trying to ignore the knife that twisted in her heart. James had never looked at her that way.
Sienna came into the living room and stopped short when she saw James.
“Oh, hello,” she said with her usual warm smile, not recognizing him. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Sienna.”
James stood up so quickly he nearly knocked over his coffee cup. “I’m James. Stefan’s… friend.”
“Nice to meet you, James,” Sienna said, her cheeks slightly pink. “I had no idea Stefan had another friend apart from…” She didn’t complete her sentence, but Elena knew exactly who she meant.
If only she knew he was the one standing right in front of her-flesh and blood.
“Likewise,” James replied, and his voice held a warmth Elena had never heard directed at her.
Stefan appeared from his office and hugged his sister. “What are you doing here? I thought you weren’t coming home until Christmas.”
“I missed you guys,” Sienna said, but her eyes kept drifting back to James. “And I had a break between semesters, so I thought I’d surprise you.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re here. James, Sienna is an artist. She’s been studying in Paris for the past two years,” Stefan said, introducing her. “This is like the third time she’s studying something different,” he added, rolling his eyes.
But Mose didn’t hear a word, his entire focus was on Sienna.
“That’s fascinating,” James said, and he actually seemed to mean it. “What kind of art do you do?”
Over the past few months, Mose had grown an interest in art, and Stefan had helped him develop it. He’d even hired tutors and coaches for him.
“Mostly paintings, but I’ve been experimenting with sculpture lately,” Sienna replied, settling onto the couch.
Mose immediately sat down next to her, leaving Elena feeling invisible and forgotten.
“I’d love to see some of your work sometime,” James said.

“I’d love to show you,” Sienna replied with a bright smile.
Elena excused herself and went to the kitchen, unable to watch anymore. Even before the accident, he never spoke to her with such interest. And now, all his attention was focused on Sienna, while she got nothing but polite indifference.
Over the next few days, Elena watched helplessly as Mose and Sienna grew closer. They had long conversations about art and travel. They cooked meals together when he was around, laughing and chatting like old friends.
Mose, who had always refused to enter the kitchen, even when she had insisted in the past, was now the one suggesting he and Sienna prepare something together.
He even started asking Sienna about her day every morning, something he had never once done with Elena.
The breaking point came on a Wednesday afternoon.
Elena and Sienna were walking through the garden together. Elena was trying to remain friendly, despite the jealousy eating her alive.
This was Sienna, they had been friends for months. She couldn’t hate her or let personal feelings ruin their bond. And the fact that Sienna had no idea what was happening only made Elena feel worse.
They were talking about Sienna’s art when Sienna suddenly tripped over an uneven stone in the pathway.
Both women fell. Elena landed hard on her knees, scraping her palms on the rough ground. Sienna twisted her ankle and cried out in pain.
Mose, who had been talking to others nearby, paused mid-conversation and came running immediately.
Elena’s heart leapt for a moment, thinking he was coming to help her. But he ran straight past her without even glancing down, going directly to Sienna.
“Are you okay?” he asked, kneeling beside Sienna and gently examining her ankle. “Can you move it?”
“I think it’s just twisted,” Sienna said, wincing.
“Let me help you up,” he said, carefully lifting Sienna to her feet and supporting her weight.
Elena sat on the ground, watching this scene unfold-her scraped palms bleeding, her knees throbbing. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the emotional devastation of being completely ignored by the man she loved. (1
“Elena? Are you hurt?”
She looked up to see Ethan approaching. Over the past months, he’d been so kind and attentive. She knew he was interested in her, but she had never been able to see past her love for Mose.
Besides, he was Mia’s younger brother, and she only saw him that way.
“I’m fine,” she said, trying to stand up on her own.
“No, you’re not,” Ethan said firmly, noticing the blood on her hands. “Let me help you.”
He gently helped her to her feet and examined her injuries with the same care that James was showing Sienna.

“We should clean these scrapes,” Ethan said. “They could get infected.”
Elena nodded numbly, casting one more glance at James and Sienna. He was still fussing over her twisted ankle, his face full of concern and tenderness, the same expression he used to wear when he looked at her.
Ethan led Elena inside and carefully cleaned her wounds at the kitchen sink. His touch was gentle and caring, and Elena found herself thinking, any other woman would be lucky to have his attention. But her heart still belonged to a man who looked at her like she was invisible.
“There,” Ethan said, applying bandages to her palms. “That should heal up nicely.”
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
“Elena,” Ethan said softly. “I know this is difficult for you. Watching him with Sienna.”
Elena’s eyes filled with tears. “Is it that obvious?”
“To me, yes. But I’m sure Mia and Stefan know too.”
Ethan had known Mose was alive after the incident. He had assisted Mia and Stefan when everyone believed Mose was dead. He’d even taken Mose’s place when needed.
Samuel and his mom had been furious, but he had insisted, he wanted a good relationship with his sister. And ever since, he had kept their secret.
