Chapter 135
The next day, Mia sat at the kitchen table watching Mose, who not just looked but acted like a complete stranger.
His face was different now, yes. There was no denying the doctors had done an excellent job reconstructing his features, and everything else about his appearance had changed too.
But it wasn’t just his face that was different. The man sitting across from her, laughing at something on his phone, was nothing like the quiet, serious Mose she had known.
How can someone change this much, she kept wondering. She never knew it was this possible. Could she stop loving Stefan if she lost some of her memories?
The thought made her shiver. Life without loving Stefan would be like tea without sugar and milk. Bitter.
“Good morning, Mia,” he said cheerfully when he noticed her staring. “Stefan said you make the best coffee in the house. Mind sharing?”
Mia smiled and poured him a cup, still getting used to hearing him speak so casually. The old Mose barely said two words unless he absolutely had to.
This new version of him was chatty, friendly, except to Elena. Her heart broke at the thought, and he seemed to have opinions about everything.
“Thank you,” he said, taking a sip. “Perfect as always.”
Stefan walked into the kitchen adjusting his tie. He had been working from home more often lately.
“How are you feeling today?” Stefan asked Mose, the same question he asked every morning.
“Great. Ready to tackle those quarterly reports you wanted me to review,” Mose replied enthusiastically. “I think I found some areas where we can improve efficiency by at least fifteen percent.”
Stefan nodded approvingly. The business training had been incredibly successful. Within months of waking up, Mose had absorbed information like a sponge. Numbers, strategies, market analysis – it all came naturally to him. Sometimes Stefan wondered if this version of Mose was actually smarter than the original.
He was perfect at everything that was placed before him, including art.
“That’s excellent. We’ll discuss it in the meeting this afternoon,” Stefan said.
In the past months, Stefan had carefully controlled Mose’s environment during his recovery. No weapons of any kind were allowed in the house. No violent movies or books. He was determined that this new Mose would never discover his previous life as an assassin.
That was what the old Mose had wanted. He’d made Stefan promise he’d help him change. And Stefan did exactly as he promised. Mose was no longer chief of his security. He was now just an assistant.
“Is Elena coming down for breakfast?” Mose asked, and Mia noticed how his entire demeanor changed when he said her name. His smile faded and his voice became colder.
“She’s still sleeping,” Mia said carefully. “She had a rough night.”

Elena had been having rough nights for months now. Ever since Mose had returned and looked at her like she was a stranger he couldn’t stand. No matter what she did or said, he seemed to actively dislike her. It was breaking her heart all over again.
“Right,” Mose said dismissively. “Well, I should get ready for work.”
……..
When they all got back from the office, Stefan and Mose were in his office discussing business matters. Stefan decided to bring up Elena’s name into the discussion. He’d been seeing the way Mose had been treating her and
he didn’t like it.
Both Sienna and Elena were like sisters to him, and he wouldn’t want to see any of them hurt because of one man. At the end, all of them were going to get hurt if Mose wasn’t careful. As a friend, he could only give his candid advice and nothing more.
He had tried talking to Mose about it several times, suggesting that he should be kinder to Elena, but nothing seemed to work.
“Mose,” Stefan started, “Elena has been having a difficult time adjusting. Maybe you could make an effort to include her in conversations?”
Mose’s expression immediately became guarded. “I treat her perfectly fine. I’m polite, I don’t say anything mean to her. What more do you want?” Stefan raised a brow, the Mose talks in a rude way sometimes, but he’s trying to be patient with him. That’s what the doctor said.
He took a deep breath “Remember, I told you she used to be very important to you,” Stefan said carefully. ” Before the accident.”
“Well, I don’t remember that,” Mose replied curtly. “And I can’t force myself to feel something I don’t feel. She seems nice enough, but we just don’t click. It happens.”
Stefan sighed. He had hoped that spending time together would help Mose’s feelings for Elena return, but if anything, he seemed to dislike her more each day.
Elena, who wanted to take a report from Stefan, appeared in the office doorway at that moment.
Hearing their discussion, she just stood there with a hurt expression on her face. Mose and Stefan didn’t notice her presence.
“She loved you very much before the accident,” Stefan tried to make him understand.
“Stefan, I appreciate that you want everyone to get along, but you can’t force chemistry. I feel nothing when I look at her. Less than nothing, actually. Something about her just rubs me the wrong way.” Mose paused.
“But Sienna… there’s something special about her. She’s smart and funny and beautiful. I feel like I could talk to
her for hours.”
Stefan felt his heart sink. This was exactly what he had been afraid of.
“Mose, Elena was your fiancée. You were planning to marry her.” Stefan couldn’t hold it in again. He just had to go against the doctor’s orders. If Elena remained sad, Mia would be sad too, and he hated seeing Mia sad for her friend.
