THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son novel Chapter 164

Chapter 164

He hadn’t wanted to believe that his father, Samuel could be involved in something so horrible. Ho would he kill his wife, the mother of his child. But Mia’s instincts had always been good, so he had agreed to watch him carefully.

That’s why Ethan was still living at the Meyer family home instead of his own penthouse. He told himself it was because he was helping with funeral arrangements and family business, but really, he was watching his father’s

every move.

The house felt empty and wrong without his mother there. Every room held memories of her, her laugh echoing from the kitchen, her perfume lingering in the hallways, her voice calling to him from the garden.

She was greedy and sometimes cruel, but she was still my mother. She didn’t deserve to die like that.

For two weeks, Ethan and Mia had been conducting their secret investigation. Mia would visit every couple of days, pretending to check on her grieving brother.

Ethan would act like he didn’t want to see her, claiming he was too angry about Elena to deal with family right

now.

“I don’t want to hear her name,” he would say loudly whenever Mia brought up Elena, making sure anyone listening would hear him.

Then Mia would follow him to his room, where they would quietly share what they had learned.

But after two weeks, they were going in circles. Every lead took them nowhere. Every clue turned out to be meaningless.

Ethan was starting to feel desperate. Elena was suffering, everyone thought he had turned his back on the woman he loved, and his mother’s killer was still out there.

Then, one day after Mia had left, Ethan decided to go through his mother’s things one more time. He was looking for anything they might have missed – a diary, a letter, even a receipt that might give them a new lead.

That’s when he thought to check his mother’s car.

The police had finished processing it as evidence, but Ethan realized he had never looked at the dashcam footage himself. His mother’s car had one of those cameras that recorded everything while driving.

He downloaded the footage from the day she died and sat in his room watching it on his laptop.

Most of it was boring – his mother driving to familiar places, stopping at red lights, listening to classical music on the radio.

His chest tightened, as he watched her smile not knowing it was going to be her last. He must get her kidnapper, he or she would pay. He’ll make sure if that.

But then he noticed something strange. In the last hour of the recording, he could see his mother’s hands on the

steering wheel. And she was texting.

That wasn’t unusual by itself. His mother had always been bad about using her phone while driving, despite him constantly telling her it was dangerous.

But when he looked closer, he realized she was using a phone he had never seen before. It was a different color, different size than her normal phone. When had she gotten a second phone? And why?

His heart started racing. This could be the breakthrough they needed.

He immediately drove to the police station to ask about his mother’s personal belongings. Maybe this second phone was among her things.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Meyer,” the desk officer told him. “Your father already picked up all of Mrs. Meyer’s personal effects a week ago.”

He was surprised, his dad hadn’t mentioned collecting their mother’s things. But then again, maybe he was also trying to find clues about who had killed his wife.

Ethan decided to drive to his father’s office to ask about the phone. His father had been working late every night since the funeral, throwing himself into business deals to avoid dealing with his grief.

But when he arrived at the Meyer Industries building, the parking garage attendant greeted him respectfully then, told him that Samuel had just left.

“He just drove out a while ago, that’s his car going,” the attendant said pointing at the direction Samuel went.” Seemed like he was in a hurry.”

Ethan could see his father’s distinctive black Mercedes in the distance. On impulse, he decided to follow.

Maybe he’s going to meet with a private investigator, Ethan thought. *Maybe he’s further along in solving Mom’s murder than I thought.

But as he followed his father’s car through the city, Samuel started taking turns that didn’t make sense.

These weren’t roads that led to any of Samuel’s usual haunts – not the country club, not his lawyer’s office, not any of the restaurants he frequented.

Ethan’s stomach started to twist with unease as he realized where they were heading.

Samuel was driving toward the abandoned warehouse, the same place where he and Mia had nearly been killed months ago. The same area where everything had gone wrong, where their lives had almost ended.

What would his Dad be going there? Ethan thought, his hands gripping the steering wheel tighter.

Maybe he had received a tip about the murder. Maybe someone had called him with information and asked to meet in a secluded location.

But something felt very, very wrong about this.

He continued to follow at a safe distance, making sure to stay far enough back that his father wouldn’t notice him in the rearview mirror.

As they got closer to the warehouse district, Ethan’s mind started racing. This was the place he’d never forget in
