THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

When Ethan finally arrived home, he sat in his car for several minutes trying to figure out what to do next. He couldn’t tell Mia about this – she would insist they call the police immediately and have his dad arrested.

But Ethan wasn’t ready for that. He needed to understand why his father had killed that man. There had to be a reason, some explanation that would make sense of what he had seen.

His dad was a smart, calculating man who would never do anything without a purpose. He wouldn’t risk his reputation and freedom unless something very important was at stake.

There’s more to this story, Ethan thought. Something bigger is happening here, and he needs to find out what it is before he could decide what to do.

He also had a gut feeling that this murder was connected somehow to his mother’s death and Elena’s arrest. The timing was too coincidental to be unrelated.

Ethan decided that if Mia comes the following day, he’ll tell her he still hasn’t found any new leads. He need to investigate this on his own until he understands what’s really going on.

He got out and walked towards his room like a lost ghost. He got to his room and sat on his bed, lost in thought.

After like what felt like forever, he heard the familiar sound of his father’s Mercedes pulling into the driveway. He looked at his phone – it was past one in the morning.

This wasn’t unusual. Samuel had always worked late and come home at odd hours. But now he was starting to wonder what his dad had really been doing during all those late nights over the years.

How many times has he left the house to kill someone? How many people has he murdered that we never knew about? Ethan thought with a chill.

Ethan got up from his bed and walked round his room, trying to practice how to act normal. He waited a few minutes, then left his room and walked toward the hallway where his father’s bedroom was located.

He needed to see his dad’s reaction, to study his behavior and look for any signs of what had just happened.

“Dad,” he called out just as Samuel was about to enter his bedroom.

Samuel paused with his hand on the doorknob but didn’t turn around. “Not now, Ethan. I’m exhausted. I really need to get some sleep.”

Of course he’ll be tired. After killing a whole human, you should be tired. Murder is probably an exhausting work. Ethan thought bitterly.

But out loud, he pressed on. “It’s about Mom. I really need talk to you.”

That made Samuel stopped dead, like he was struck by lightning. He slowly turned around to face his son, his eyebrow raised in question.

“What about your mother?”

Ethan studied his dad’s appearance carefully. He was still wearing the same clothes from earlier, but there was no sign of what had happened. No blood, no dirt, nothing that would suggest he had just killed someone and disposed of a body.

He’s really good at this, he’s had practice covering his tracks.

“Do you think Mom would ever be able to forgive me?” Ethn asked, forcing his voice to sound broken and guilty.

Samuel looked confused. “Forgive you for what?”

“For going against her wishes. For almost marrying the woman who killed her.” Ethan let his voice crack convincingly. “Do you think she’ll ever forgive me, Dad?”

Samuel’s expression softened, and he walked over to place his hands on Ethan’s shoulders. For a moment, he looked like the caring father Ethan remembered.

Like the man who’d walked towards him years ago, and said “You’re my son, and a Meyer shouldn’t have to suffer.

Then he’d been happy to find out he has a father and a sibling, he felt his life was finally getting complete.

“She will forgive you,” Samuel said bringing him out from his thought. “She’s your mother. She loves you unconditionally.”

Then Samuel’s tone became more serious. “But you need to stay away from Elena completely. And you should probably distance yourself from Mia too, because there’s no way Elena could have planned and executed something like this without help.”

Ethan looked shocked, as if the idea of Mia being involved had never occurred to him. “You think Mia helped Elena kill Mom?”

Samuel nodded gravely. “I think Elena was just the weapon but Mia was the one who pulled the trigger, so to speak. She’s the one with the real motive to hurt our family!”

“But….why? Why would she do such a thing?” Ethan asked hurt.

“Because I gave her what she’d always wanted. Let’s just say she’s jealous.”

He patted Ethan’s shoulder one more time. “Stay away from both of them, son. For your own safety and for your mother’s memory.”

With that, he turned and went into his bedroom, leaving Ethan standing alone in the hallway.

As Ethan walked back to his own room, his father’s words echoed in his mind.

Was his dad the one really responsible for his Mom’s death? Did he kill his own wife just to make sure he, stayed away from Elena and Mia?

The more he thought about it, the more sense it made in a twisted way. His dad had never approved of Ethan’s relationship with Elena. He had been furious about Mia marrying Stefan and starting up her own cooperation.

company.

Elena was never the real target, she was just meant to be the scapegoat while his Dad went after Mia.

It would be easy to eliminate Elena by framing her for murder. And once she was out of the picture, he could work on turning everyone against Mia by suggesting she was Elena’s accomplice.
