Chapter 95
The ride back was quiet, but Mia and Stefan’s hands stayed joined. Stefan had taken her hand the moment they stood up to leave the restaurant, only letting go when he opened the car door for her.
Neither of them said a word the whole way home. But it wasn’t the awkward kind of silence. It was the heavy, thoughtful kind. The kind where your heart speaks louder than your voice.
Mia’s mind was spinning. She could feel the pound against her chest. She kept hearing his words from earlier. “I love you Mia. Let me earn your love.”
She hadn’t seen that coming. All this time, she thought she was the only one feeling something. She didn’t know Stefan felt it too.
When they got to their room, she didn’t linger in the living room. She needed space and time to breathe. She went straight to the bathroom and freshened up.
She didn’t wear anything too fancy…. just a soft tank top and shorts. Something simple. Comfortable. She wasn’t trying to make anything happen tonight. Not after last night.
The memory made her pause. The kiss. The way she had clung to him. The way her body had moved without thinking.
What had gotten into her? She had been brave in a way she didn’t understand.
Or maybe she really wasn’t sober last night because now, as she stood staring herself in the mirror. She didn’t know how to face Stefan. How to act around him, or what to say.
She’d go out and say “Hi Stefan. I like you but I don’t know how to act around you anymore because I’ve never liked any guy before.” N.O, that wasn’t a good idea. She hit her head on her glass multiple times.
“Mia?” She paused when she heard Stefan calling her.
“Are you okay in there?” She stood staring at the door, saying nothing.
“You’ve spent an hour in there. If you don’t reply me, I’ll come in…. In the next 2 minutes.” She stood up immediately and walked towards the door.
“I’m okay. I’ll be out in five”
“Okay” She gave out a relief breath. Stefan coming in there would only make this worse.
Her hands were still not yet stable, she was the queen of control but right now. Seems like the control had jumped
off the fence.
When she came out, Stefan was already on the bed. His shirt was unbuttoned, and he looked clean, calm… and quietly waiting.
He didn’t say anything. Just patted the space beside him.
She hesitated for a second. Not because she didn’t want to. But because everything felt different now.
Still, she walked over and climbed into bed. She lay stiff at first, unsure of what to do with herself. But Stefan reached for her gently, pulled her closer, until her head rested on his chest.
She let out a shaky breath. It felt… safe. Peaceful. It felt like home. Was this how it felt?
“Thank you for giving me the chance to earn your love. For rying to love me.”

Stefan’s voice was quiet and lased with honesty. It hung in the air between them like something fragile. Mia, w had been nervously biting the inside of her cheek minutes ago, raised a brow at his words.
Her eyes searched his.
Did he really think he didn’t deserve love? That no one could love him?
Her heart clenched.
She didn’t say anything at first. She simply leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on his lips…. gentle, unhurried. Then she pulled back just enough to look at him, her gaze lingering on his face like she was trying to memorize it.
Then Stefan reached for her, wordlessly drawing her in again.
Their lips met, this time more slower and deeper. It wasn’t rushed. Their lips danced between each other.
When they finally pulled away, breath mingling in the space between them, Mia smiled and rested her head against his chest. His heartbeat was calm, steady.
She closed her eyes.
“What should I call you?” Mia blinked when she heard him. She lifted her head slowly, brows furrowed.
“What?”
“People in love call each other pet names,” he said, a little awkwardly. Mia nearly laughed. Stefan? Awkward? Those don’t belong in the same sentence. “Like Matteo and Aidan.”
A grin tugged at her lips. “You’ve been paying attention.”
Stefan gave a tiny smirk, almost boyish.
“That would be your choice,” she whispered. “You should call me whatever name that fits how you feel for me… and I’ll do the same.”
Her cheeks grew warm as she said it, her smile growing shy
Stefan didn’t answer immediately. He stared up at the ceiling for a second, thoughtful, as though this were the most serious decision of his life.
Mia lay still, but her heart was racing like she was waiting to hear if she’d just won something.
It wasn’t just a name. Not when it was coming from him. She wanted him to hear how he feels about her.
She hadn’t even anticipated her father’s inheritance like this.
Stefan turned his head slowly toward her, one brow raised slightly, eyes locked onto hers.
“Mia,” he said, like he was testing the sound of her name.
She blinked.
“I don’t think any name can explain how I feel,” he said softly.
“But I’ll figure it out,” he added. “Something that fits what you make me feel… something only for you.”
Her breath caught in her throat.
“O…..kay,” she whispered.
“And you?” he asked. “What would you call me?”

Mia grinned, heart skipping.
“Let’s just say… I’ll surprise you.” He chuckled low in his chest, and the sound rumbled against her cheek.
One second, she was resting peacefully on Stefan’s chest, the steady rhythm of his heart calming her. The next second, she let out a surprised yelp as he flipped her onto her back, his weight caging her in.
“Stefan!” she gasped, eyes wide.
He didn’t answer, just smiled down at her, boyish and unbothered…. then lowered his head and caught her lips. Everything in Mia went still for a moment. Then she melted
Her fingers slipped into his hair on instinct, anchoring herself as his mouth moved with hers, slow but sure. There was no hesitation. No nerves. Just heat and softness and the kind of kiss that made her toes curl beneath the sheets.
Her heart raced like it was trying to climb out of her chest. It was Stefan… Stefan… was kissing her like she was his whole world. Messing with her brain.
She let herself sink into it.
Bzzz.
Her phone vibrated.
They ignored it.
Bzzz bzzz bzzz.
Stefan groaned but didn’t pull away until the third buzz. His forehead dropped gently to hers, breath warm and uneven against her lips.
“Elena,” Mia muttered when she caught sight of the caller ID.
She moved to sit up, but Stefan’s arms stayed around her. “Pick it up,” he said, “but I’m not letting you go.” With one arm trapped against his chest, she stretched for the phone. “Hello?”
“MIAAAAAAA!!!” Elena’s scream nearly pierced her eardrum.
Mia flinched, blinking fast. “Elena?”
“GUESS!”
“Elena, I don’t have….”
“WE GOT IT! The Mercury Tech contract! It’s yours! You and Stefan! You were awarded the freaking deal!” Mia’s brain stuttered.
She blinked again. “Wait. What?”
Stefan had propped himself up, his brow furrowed now. “What’s she saying?” he whispered.
Mia barely registered him. Her eyes were wide, her body frozen.
“You know the one that wasn’t due for another two weeks? Elena continued breathlessly. “They pushed it
forward. Decided today. Mose and I got the email hours ago Mia, it’s yours! It’s happening!”
Stefan sat up fully now, his hand resting lightly on her back “We got the contract?”
