THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son novel Chapter 96

Chapter 96

She remembered Elena’s words. They needed to leave immediately, if they want to make it on time.

She stood up and walked towards the closet, with Stefan watching her every step. “We should leave immediately if we want to make it on time tomorrow” she said, tossing clothes into her bag. Her tone was firm….. devoid of uncertainty or panic….. It was sharp and focused.

Stefan got on his feet too, moving with quiet urgency. “Alright ma’am. I’ll tell Collins to prep the jet.”

Mia stared at him with an amused look, after a while, she nodded. “Good. I don’t want any delays.” Their eyes lingered, then Stefan moved close and gave her a quick peck on her head before saluting.

A blush appeared on Mia’s face but then she turned her focus back to the work at hand….. She didn’t want a single thing going wrong.

Within hours, they were already on board Stefan’s private jet, headed for Manhattan.

Mia sat by the window, legs crossed, typing something into her tablet. Stefan sat across from her, watching her with a small smile. He liked this version of her. Focused. Controlled. But he also knew how much pressure she put on herself.

“You’re not going to mess anything up,” he said, reading her mind.

She didn’t look up, but the corner of her lips lifted. “I know But I don’t want anyone thinking it was luck.”

The next morning, news were already spreading. Social media was on fire.

“Who is MSS?”

“Mystery firm wins biggest contract of the year.”

“Silent sharks? MSS beats out Meyer and Sterling.”

Nobody knew who was behind it. Just the initials. Some guessed it was a cover name for a foreign investor. Others thought it was Samuel himself, launching a secret division. But neither Samuel nor Jeremiah had claimed it. And that made it even louder.

When the jet landed, a sleek black car was already waiting for them. They drove straight to the Manhattan headquarters.

By the time they arrived, the top floor boardroom was already full.

Samuel Meyer sat at the head of the table, hands clasped tightly. His face didn’t move, but the tension in his jaw said enough.

Jeremiah was beside him, arms crossed, eyes scanning the room with a mix of suspicion and annoyance. No one enjoyed being outplayed…, least of all him.

The rest of the board members and executives whispered amongst themselves, trying not to seem too curious but failing miserably. They were all waiting.

Mia and Stefan didn’t rush. When they stepped into the room, everything paused.

Mia walked in first. Hair pulled back, black fitted blazer over a white blouse and jeans, heels clicking across the marble. There was no smile on her face, a calm confidence smile.

Stefan followed, hands in his pockets, quiet but unshakable

Mia’s eyes swept the room once before she walked to the sent at the far end of the table.

Stefan pulled it out for her, she sat giving him a smile. The, he took the seat beside her.

The murmurs stopped.

Then Samuel spoke staring at Stefan. “So… you’re the ones behind MSS.”

Mia looked directly at him. “Yes. We are.” He turned his gaze who was at Stefans’ towards her. She gave him a mocking look.

She lifted her head high because, for the first time in her life, she was sure…. no one in that room looked at her like just Samuel Meyer’s daughter.

She was something else now. And they all knew it.

Though they noticed the whispers and sideways looks. Buto one dared to question them again.

The contract sat on the table – thick, heavy, and stamped with every seal that mattered. Government. Mercury

Tech. MSS.

Mia stared at it. She sat with her back straight, legs crossed face calm. Beside her, Stefan looked just the same…. quiet, steady, completely unfazed. He didn’t need to say anything. His presence alone said enough.

This was it, she thought. The final step of the first step, or second step. The wedding was the first, this was the second.

But this…….. this was just the beginning. She’ll come for everything that made them destroy her and Stefan’s life. One of the officials began speaking, walking them through the last few pages. Mia nodded along, only half- listening. Her fingers brushed the edge of the pen. She could hear her own heartbeat….. steady now, but strong.

Then the man turned to her. “All that’s left is your signatures.”

She didn’t hesitate. She picked up the pen and signed.

Her handwriting flowed across the page with the same quiet confidence she carried in every room. She wrote her full name.

Mia Meyer-Sterling….. and set the pen down with finality.

Who would have thought that both names would be in the same sentence. This life was truly like a spoon.

Then Stefan took it, glanced at her once, and signed just beside her.

Stefan Sterling.

That was it. The contract was done.

A few people clapped…. polite, reserved. Elena, of course, clapped the loudest from where she stood near the wall, smiling like she’d just watched her best friend win an award.

It was done. They’d landed the contract. Smoothly. No hiccups. No pushback. Just two people who had worked hard, stayed quiet, and let their work speak for itself.

As they stood, a few people came over….. shaking hands, offering congratulations. Some were genuine. Others just didn’t want to be left behind.

But Mia didn’t care. This wasn’t about proving anything anymore. She had nothing left to prove.

She and Stefan had built something…. and today, they’d made it real.
