The Sentinel couldn’t believe that he had been stabbed by a dagger coated in miasma. But it was not something anyone could’ve expected. Who actually dared to make use of miasma as a weapon? Perhaps, there were people like that, and he had never met them.
But to think that a young woman like her could’ve thought of that?
"Just who are you?"
His body staggered as he felt the violent effects of the miasma inside his body. His leg felt like it was about to melt, and he could see the black roots already climbing beneath his skin. It was unknown how long he could stay alive without being purified by a Guide, but he couldn’t die like this!
Gritting his teeth, the Sentinel used his own fist to smash his corrupted leg. He amputated his leg with a punch strengthened by his enhanced strength!
By doing this, he could stop the miasma from spreading through his body and still be able to fight. Even if it meant temporarily becoming one-legged, it didn’t matter. For as long as he could get out of here, he’d be able to seek out a healing pod and get his leg reconnected. If that was impossible... he’d get a prosthetic leg instead!
Already calculating how he’ll get by in the future with just one leg, the Sentinel started his counterattack. He commanded his fireballs, which had fluctuated when he realized he had been infected, to reform and descend on Aisha even faster.
However, Aisha was faster than him. She took advantage of the lapse he showed just now as she drove another dagger, also coated with miasma, into the top of his head, breaching his hard skull and stabbing into his brain.
Then, she let go of the handle and pushed herself off his back, flipping backward in a beautiful crescent arc and landing on her feet just as the fireballs finally fell onto the Sentinel’s entire body.
The Sentinel couldn’t even scream, as he was already dead. With his brain taking damage and the miasma already eating away at it, there was no way for him to survive!
Soon, the smell of burning flesh and hair wafted through the air.
Amidst this, the smoke in the room slowly cleared away.
The flames crackled as they started to lick the Sentinel’s skin, burning it to a crisp. He was still standing when he died, so once the smoke disappeared, the sight of him caused a grand wave of confusion and terror among those who could finally see what was happening.
It was especially true for the remaining guard still alive. He was in the middle of attacking, but the smoke earlier made him unable to properly judge where Aisha was located. The only thing guiding him was the orange light from the fireballs, and he was already headed there.
But seeing his superior, who wasn’t just strong but also a Sentinel, the guard’s grip on his weapon loosened, and it fell to the floor with a crisp sound. At the same time, he fell onto his butt as he realized that he had reached his superior. He was so close that he could even see the Sentinel’s eyes still open in death, with the miasma moving behind his sclera.
"Uwwaah!!!"
The guard could only scream as he tried to back off.
After getting through this place with the permit Zeke handed to her, Aisha had suspected that the Association had some ties with this place since it was able to get through the access node to the contaminated zone owned by the Susa Merchant Corps.
