Having him here listening made the weight I had been bearing for so long-trying to figure out what went wrong- lighter. I muttered my voice full of emotion I never wanted to give up on him.

I hoped that we could resolve the issue and that things would improve. However I knew in my heart. I was aware that we

were already too far apart. I fought back the tears that threatened to spill out as I closed my eyes. I was not able to fix it.

The most difficult thing to accept was that. Alexander was silent for a long time. He simply sat next to me and pulled me

gently against his chest with his arm around me. His firm and warm embrace served as a haven in the midst of my

emotional storm.

I felt the warmth of his touch and the beat of his heart beneath my ear as I leaned into him.

He whispered almost against my hair “You’re not alone anymore Ava. You dont need to bear this alone. You are free to

relax and recover. Moreover I will support you at every turn.”

As I closed my eyes I absorbed the warmth of his speech. With every second that went by the sharpness of my past and the

ache in my chest seemed to lessen. I had needed to hear those words-needed to hear that I wasnt irreparably damaged

and that it was acceptable to not know everything.

My voice was muffled by his shirt as I said “You make it easier. Alexander without you I dont know what I would do. I thought I had lost it but you gave it to me. I had no idea that I needed it.”

The sound of his soft laughter was warm and soft. “I’m happy I could assist you Ava. You are worthy of tranquility.

Happiness is something you deserve.”

For a while neither of us felt the need to say anything more as we remained in that comfortable silence. I felt the tension release as his hand landed on my back and began to rub gently in circles.

He was breathing steadily and I could hear how it helped me relax and stay grounded in the here and now. After a while I stepped back a little and glanced up at him. His eyes were gentle and understanding and he looked me in the eyes with such intensity that my heart skipped a beat.

I closed my eyes when I felt his thumb lightly tracing my cheek. His voice was full of tenderness as he said “Ava you’re going to be all right.I promise.Simply take things one step at a time. Take it easy and heal. Wait until youre ready to do it

all. I will be here though.”

I nodded as a wave of calm passed over me as though I could finally breathe again after a long period of time. I didnt want to leave his embrace because it was my safe haven.

As the minutes went by however I began to feel the effects of the days fatigue, I knew I needed to rest because the
