A huge wave of indescribable joy burst through him like a flood breaking through a dam, wiping out ev
last bit of his restraint.
This tough man, who had never backed down in a hail of gunfire and had never shed a tear even when severely wounded and in terrible pain, now felt his nose sting. Hot tears spilled from his eyes without warning.
He remained frozen in that awkward posture, but his shoulders trembled uncontrollably.
At that moment, a coworker happened to pass by outside his door.
Through the half–closed window, the coworker saw Todd holding up the scanner, trembling all over wit tears streaming down his face, and immediately panicked.
Something’s wrong! This looks exactly like the start of a Mental Power instability outbreak!
Alarm bells went off in the coworker’s mind. Instinctively, he reached for the restraint device on his wais ready to take emergency action in case Todd hurt someone or hurt himself.
“Allen, calm down man! Breathe!” the coworker shouted nervously as he slowly approached.
Todd snapped out of it when he heard the voice.
He suddenly came back to his senses and wiped his face roughly with his sleeve, quickly brushing away those embarrassing tears.
He lowered his arm and turned around. Tear marks were still on his face, but the corners of his mouth could not stop rising. A wide grin spread across his face, full of excitement, wild joy, and overwhelming relief. To an outsider, the smile looked strange, even a little frightening.
Seeing that expression only made the coworker more uneasy. He stopped walking and asked carefully, “Todd? A–Are you okay? Please don’t scare me like that!”
Everyone in the department knew that Todd had been forced to retire because of severe Mental Power damage. People admired him but also worried about him, afraid that one day he might completely collapse.
“I’m fine! I’m better than ever! I’ve never felt this good!” Todd’s voice was hoarse from excitement. He slapped the coworker hard on the shoulder, the force making the other man wince. “Bro, help me ask the boss for leave! Tell him I’ve got something urgent to handle! Something extremely important!”

After saying that, he did not wait for a reply. He strode straight out of the house, disappearing quick down the hallway.
The coworker stood there rubbing his aching shoulder, completely confused.
Fine?
He smiles like a horror villain, and yet he says he’s fine?
And he even wants to take leave?
Is he getting better, or getting worse?
After leaving home, Todd did not immediately go back to reunite with his family.
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, he first went to the Kingdom Third Hospital for a more prec Mental Power test.
When the doctor in the white coat handed him the freshly printed test report, the result clearly showe the page: “Current Mental Power Damage Level: 64%“,
Todd felt like his heart was about to jump out of his chest!
It dropped again!
The official test confirmed it. It had dropped another 1%! He gripped the report tightly, as if he were gripping his own life, and the smile on his face could no longer be suppressed.
This time, he could finally go home without any burden.
When he pushed open the door, his parents and his wife were in the living room. They were startled at first, and then their faces showed a mixture of surprise and worry.
Because Todd had always been afraid that his unstable Mental Power might hurt his family, he tried to come home as little as possible. Even when he did return, he kept his distance.
Seeing him suddenly come home at this time, their first thought was that something had gone wrong.
“Allen, why did you…” His wife, Josie Allen, walked over with concern.
Todd did not let her finish. He smiled and handed them the test report that was still warm from the printer.
The three of them took the report with confusion and read it together.
They could not understand most of the technical terms on the page, but they recognized the bold number immediately.
They studied it for quite a while before Josie, who was the most observant, reacted first. She suddenly looked up. Her voice trembled with excitement as she stared at Todd in disbelief. “Allen… I… I remember
