Chapter 129 Build It Ourselves

Tiffany thought it over for a bit before replying, “The Exile Management Regulations only explain what happens after someone’s mental power breaks down. They never mention whether we can return after getting better. But honestly, that part isn’t important.”
She paused and exchanged glances with Melton and Fiona. The three of them all showed the same mixed but determined look.
Tiffany continued, “No matter what, none of us wants to go back. The kingdom threw us away the moment we stopped being useful. Why would we return? Just to be used again and then dumped once more?”
The moment Elizabeth heard that, she quickly shook her head. “No, no! You all need to go back!”
“Huh?” All three of them froze and stared at her, totally confused.
Without holding back, Elizabeth pointed toward the wide fields of potatoes and sweet potatoe far away. “If you don’t go back, then who will help me sell potatoes and sweet potatoes on Centria Planet? There’s so much here. If I’m the only one setting up a stall every three days, how can I possibly sell it all? It would be such a waste if everything just rotted in the ground!”
Tiffany almost asked, “Can’t you just sell them on Starnet?”
But the question died in her throat when she suddenly remembered that Planet A001 didn’t even have a freight route yet.
Then Melton spoke up with a question that shocked Elizabeth speechless, “Ms. Schofield, have you ever considered… building our own freight route?”
Elizabeth stood frozen for a few seconds before repeating in shock, “B–build our own freight
route?!”
She pointed down at the dirt under her feet. “On Planet A001? We build it ourselves?!”
Wasn’t that idea completely crazy?
Weren’t freight routes supposed to be huge projects planned and built by the kingdom?
Since even an official freight route was denied for an exile planet, how could a private one possibly work?
Seeing how stunned Elizabeth looked, Melton nodded firmly, “Yes, we build it ourselves. The kingdom controls the main interstellar routes, but it hasn’t banned private people or companies from creating short–distance or dedicated freight routes between non–military and
non–core sectors.”

He continued explaining, “Think about it. How do recycling companies send giant recovery ships to different Garbage Planets? They use private freight routes that they built themselves. Large mining companies do the same thing on resource planets they own. As long as the route follows basic space safety rules, gets registered with the Kingdom Interstellar Route Authority, and the management fees are paid, you can run it once it’s approved.”
As Elizabeth listened, her eyes slowly began to shine, as if a brand–new door was opening in front of her.
Right. If the kingdom wouldn’t open one for her, why couldn’t she just build it herself?
“We really can?!” she asked, getting more excited. “What do we need? Is the process hard? And… what’s the cost? It must be insanely expensive, right?”
The moment she asked that last question, her heart tightened.
Melton gave a bitter smile, the kind that clearly showed she mentioned the real issue. He nodded. “The process itself isn’t too complicated. It’s mostly qualification checks, route design, safety reviews, plus paying a huge deposit and management fees. As for construction costs…”
He paused, then gave a number that made Elizabeth gasp sharply. “Depending on the distance, route level, and basic equipment required–like simple navigation beacons and meteor shields -building a private route from Planet A001 to the nearest transfer planet or connection point to the official main route, even at the lowest standard that supports small to medium freight ships, would cost roughly… at least five billion stellar coins. And that doesn’t even include future maintenance or energy costs.”
“F–Five billion?!” Elizabeth felt like her heart skipped a beat. Even her voice shook.
Before that, she had felt pretty proud of earning a few million and receiving that ten–million reward.
She thought she was getting closer to financial freedom, but compared to that huge construction cost, her money didn’t even count as loose change!
That’d be like dumping mountains of gold into a bottomless hole!
Seeing her expression fall right away, Melton quickly added, “That’s just a rough estimate. We’d still need professional route engineers to survey and design everything properly. If we can use existing resources or find cheaper options, the cost might drop a little. But it’s still a huge investment.”
Elizabeth slowly came back to her senses and began thinking about whether it was actually possible.
Build our own route with 5 billion… Private companies can do it…
