Chapter 216 A Trade Too Good to Believe

Daphne had originally assumed it would be done by mail, or that they’d arrange to meet somewhere for the exchange.

The goods are exactly as promised.Elizabeth set the potatoes on the table and opened the bag for her to inspect. You can check them. They were all dug out of the ground this morning. Freshness guaranteed.

Daphne carefully picked up one of the potatoes. It felt firm and solid in her hand, its skin smooth and still carrying that faint dampness of something freshly unearthed. The quality really was excellent.

Thinking of the frenzy on the Free Market, along with the outrageous prices people were willing to pay, she couldn’t help asking in a small voice, Thisis it really worth 360 stellar coins each?

Her family was ordinary. To her, 360 stellar coins wasn’t a small amount. A single potato costing that much was still hard for her to wrap her head around.

Elizabeth nodded with complete certainty. Of course. That’s the market price. If you don’t want the potatoes, I can also buy these 50 potatoes back from you at full market value in stellar coins.”

That way, the trade would technically be completed offline, and the Free Market platform wouldn’t have any say in it afterward.

Buy them back with stellar coins?

Daphne’s mind calculated instantly. 50 potatoes at 360 each meant 18,000 stellar coins. An outright fortune by her standards.

But then she thought of all those posts on the Free Market from people offering high prices for Tycoon Boss products, and all the descriptions of constant shortages and desperate demand

No, no need!Daphne hugged the bag of potatoes to her chest like it was a precious treasure. I want the trade. I’ll take the potatoes. Thank you!

Alright.” Elizabeth didn’t push. She took the pot of scallions readily, even though the plant itself was weak and spindly.

After examining it closely and confirming that it was the common allseason variety with decent enough vitality, she nodded in satisfaction.

Her main goal on this trip was to collect live plants and seeds of all kinds to expand the farm’s crop variety. Appearance didn’t matter. As long as it was alive, she had ways to bring it back to life.

Once the trade was done, Elizabeth didn’t leave right away. She knew Daphne was an agriculture student, and people like that usually had more access to seeds and seedlings through coursework, school resources, lab projects, or simply through their classmates.

Daphne, you said you’re in the agriculture department?Elizabeth asked in an easy tone.

Yes. I’m majoring in Plant Science and Technology.Daphne nodded, still a little stiff in front of this young farm owner.

That’s great.Elizabeth’s eyes brightened. If you ever come across other kinds of seeds, or unusual seedlings, or even lab materials that were discarded but still have viable growth potential, you can contact me. I’m going to need that kind of thing longterm. The trade terms are negotiable. We can do it like today, or I can trade sweet potatoes or strawberries instead.”

As she spoke, she took out a small box containing five strawberries and slid it over to Daphne. These five are extra. Try them. If you like the taste, just keep an eye out for seeds for me in the future.

Daphne stared at the five beautifully red, fragrant strawberries and was so startled she could only thank her over and over. She hadn’t expected a bonus, much less one in the form of expensive strawberries.

After Elizabeth left cleanly and decisively with the scallion pot in hand, Daphne shut the door and leaned against it, looking at the box of potatoes and the little container of strawberries on the table. Her heart was still hammering, and the whole thing felt like an impossible dream.

Once the initial wave of joy passed, her first thought was to list the produce on the Free Market and turn it into stellar coins.

But that slightly selfish impulse was quickly pushed down. Lilith had always treated her well. She shared snacks with her all the time and lent her lab equipment when she needed it. Even that pot of scallions had come from Lilith.

Lilith probably didn’t care about something this small, but Daphne couldn’t just act as if nothing had happened and keep all the benefits for herself.
