“Ms. Schofield, you’re certainly outspoken.” Rufus leaned back on the couch, looking at ease, but his eyes were razor sharp. “Let’s cut the pretense. Seafarm Group wants your farm. That land on Planet A001, your crops–those are intriguing.”
He leaned forward, hands clasped on his knees, his tone casual, as if discussing the weather. “Name your price. As long as you agree, Seafarm Group will pay a sum so large it’ll satisfy you and anyone backing you. From then on, you won’t need to worry about technology, resources, or distribution. You’ll have enough money for several lifetimes. You could move anywhere and live however you want. What do you say?”
He made no effort to hide the offer, dangling a fortune in front of her, hoping she’d surrender everything.
Elizabeth listened in silence, the corners of her mouth lifting in an almost amused smile.
She leaned back just as easily, tapping her finger on the polished table.
“Mr. Blanton, your generosity almost makes me feel guilty.” Her tone was light, as if she were talking about a menu. “But it just so happens I’ve been looking at a few of Seafarm Group’s businesses myself.”
Rufus‘ eyebrow twitched, but only slightly.
Elizabeth’s voice stayed steady. “For instance, your company’s taken over nearly every liquid supplement producer in the Kingdom, along with supermarket chains on every planet. I think they’ve got a lot of room to grow.”
She looked up, locking eyes with Rufus, her expression calm as she copied his earlier tone.
“Why don’t you name a price, Mr. Blanton? As long as Seafarm Group agrees, I’ll buy at a ‘reasonable‘ number myself. What do you think?”
She tossed his own tactic right back at him.
Ryan almost gasped, the sound catching in his chest. He stared at Elizabeth, completely
stunned.
George froze for a moment, then a victorious light flashed in his eyes as he gripped his cane.
Rufus‘ face clouded, his calm shattering, replaced by a storm of fury.
He rose slowly, glaring down at Elizabeth, his voice frigid. “Elizabeth, don’t kid yourself. Just because you call yourself ‘Mrs. Hewitt‘ doesn’t mean you can stand up to Seafarm Group.”

He spat out the words “call yourself,” each one meant to cut. “Do you really think marrying Cristian means the Hewitts will protect you? Everyone in the Kingdom knows the Hewitts are embarrassed by you. You’re a stain on their name. The only reason Commander Hewitt hasn’t thrown you out is that he’s being charitable. You think they’ll ever stand up for you? Don’t be ridiculous.”
He wore a vicious sneer, determined to drag Elizabeth down and crush her spirit.
Elizabeth’s face didn’t change at all.
She even let out a soft laugh, one that sounded almost pitying.
“Mr. Blanton, I think you’ve missed the point.” Her voice was calm, every word precise. “The Hewitts exist to protect the Kingdom’s borders and shield billions of people. Their focus, their strength, should be spent on interstellar crises and real threats.”
She paused, her eyes gliding over Rufus‘ twisted face with the precision of a scalpel.
“As for pests who buzz around, thinking they can cause trouble,” Elizabeth’s tone stayed measured, but she radiated total certainty and disdain. “I’ll handle those myself. I don’t need the Hewitts for that. It’s beneath them.”
“You-” Rufus trembled with rage, barely holding on to his self–control.
He shot a sharp look at the men standing behind him.
The two men in black, who’d been silent and still, suddenly moved, their eyes flashing with
menace.
One lunged straight for Elizabeth, fast and brutal, clearly trained for this kind of fight.
The other swung at Fiona, who was standing near Elizabeth, aiming to create confusion.
“Watch out!” Ryan shouted, while George leapt to his feet.
But before either man could finish, chaos erupted.
The instant those two assistants sprang into action, two shadows darted out from the edge of
the room.
They moved even faster, with deadly precision.
Hexo Hewitt and Septimus Hewitt had arrived.
