The man’s deep, handsome eyes were fixed on her like a hunter staring at his prey.

That man was Cristian. The moment he grabbed Elizabeth’s arm, something flashed through his dark

eyes.

He had spent years on the front lines. He had seen life and death too many times. His heart had long been hardened.

To him, women were unimportant. In fact, he often thought they were trouble.

This forced marriage was nothing more than a task required by the Kingdom’s law.

But just now, when Elizabeth rushed toward him, he caught a faint scent. It felt clean. Almost like it could wash away the soul.

It was nothing like any perfume or scent he had ever known.

What shocked him even more were her eyes. They were clear and lively. There was no fear in them. No flattery. No nervousness. She looked like a young deer that had wandered into a steel jungle by accident. Pure and full of life.

A strange feeling rushed through his heart like a small electric current. His steady heartbeat skipped. He had never felt this before.

Because of that unfamiliar feeling, his grip tightened without him noticing.

Elizabeth felt the pain in her arm and tried to shake him off.

It didn’t work.

She frowned, clearly unhappy. UmYou can let go now.

Cristian seemed to wake from a daze. His eyes moved slightly. He was about to say somethingbut his device suddenly rang with a sharp, urgent alarm.

His face changed at once. He let go immediately. After making a quick apology, he turned and walked toward a hover car nearby. In seconds, he disappeared behind the car door.

As he left, more than half of the crowd followed him. They had clearly been waiting for him.

The people who stayed behind all turned to look at Elizabeth.

She was wearing cheap, durable clothes that didn’t match the luxury around her at all. She looked out of place.

Their eyes filled with open disgust. Many of them even stepped back a few feet, as if afraid of getting too close to her.

But that only cleared a path to the entrance.

Elizabeth dusted off her clothes and shrugged. She didn’t care. She stepped forward and reached for the grand glass doors.

Stop!A tall security guard rushed forward and blocked her way. His voice was serious. This is a special event. No unrelated people are allowed inside!

Right then, her device rang again. Elmer’s voice came through, with a hint of impatience. Ms. Schofield, where are you now?

Elizabeth glanced at the guard in front of her and answered calmly, I’m at the entrance of the First Marriage Registration Hall. But your security won’t let me in.

Her voice wasn’t loud. But the entrance had suddenly gone quiet. Everyone heard her clearly.

The security guard froze. The people nearby who were still listening for gossip also went silent.

This poorly dressed woman is one of the main people today?

Is she the famous Elizabeth?

The future wife of General Hewitt?

The guard’s face turned pale. Even his voice shook. AreAre you Ms. Elizabeth Schofield? The one who’s marrying General Hewitt?

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow and lifted her wrist slightly, showing her device. Of course. Do you need to verify my ID?she asked, her tone playful.

Her simple sentence caused a small stir in the crowd.

Cold sweat broke out on the guard’s forehead. He quickly stepped aside and bowed slightly. His tone became extremely respectful. No need! Ms. Schofield, please go in! I’m very sorry about that!”

He didn’t really believe her. But he believed no one would dare joke about something like this today.

Just as Elizabeth was about to walk inside, a soft female voice suddenly rang out from the crowd. It sounded gentle. But it was shaking with disbelief.

EliEliza? Is that really you?
