The True Alpha of Lupine (Seraphina and Ronan) novel Chapter 284

THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW

Chapter 284 Betraying Destiny

After that day, Petal didn’t visit the Lycan kingdom to visit Dread. She simply didn’t know what she would say to him if she faced him. The thought of speaking to him left her paralyzed with fear. For the entire week she had been debating with her emotions, fighting with the thought of right and wrong. Now it was already her birthday.

Standing in the clearing of the Elysium Haven, she could feel her protectors from the temple happily decorating the temple like a new bride and preparing for the evening feast for her birthday party. Her heart clenched tightly.

She could not leave them. But Dread would also be waiting for her. This one week separation had been unbearable, and each day without him left her stifled, her body aching with emptiness, her heart hollow.

She knew how frantic Dread must be without her, how desperately he longed for her presence, and that knowledge gnawed at her heart. As evening came the temple was bustling with happiness as they celebrated her birthday and enjoyed the feast.

She spent time with everyone, they talked and laughed together. Her heart filled with happiness to see their devotion to her however as soon as she was alone Dread would come to mind, though if she were honest he never actually left her thoughts. She glanced up at the sky. It was late evening. The time they had set to meet was close.

Someone came over to offer her a drink. She smiled and accepted but every few seconds her eyes would restlessly go to the sky. By the time it was midnight, she could no longer resist the pull. She felt like dying.

She had to see him.

Excusing herself, as she hurried to leave, Silas, who had been watching her closely these past few days, finally stepped in her path, his expression unreadable.

Petal,he said quietly, his voice serious. Do you remember the story I used to tell you when you were little? The story of the Goddess?

Petal blinked, surprised by the sudden mention of the tale. The one about the Goddess who fell in love with the wrong man and lost everything?

Silas nodded, his eyes darkening as he moved closer to her. Some people are destined not to fall in love, Petal. The prophecy that surrounded your birth said you were one of those people.

His words hit her like a cold wave, Always remember,he continued, his gaze intensifying as he locked eyes with her, If you try to defy your destiny, worse things will happen. The consequences will be terrifying. You’ll lose more than you can afford, perhaps everything, including your powersand your life.

Petal stood frozen in place, her heart pounding in her chest. This wasn’t new information. Silas had always told her this story, always warned her about her destiny. Since she was a child she had been aware of her fate, yet it had never felt as real as it did now.

Since meeting the mysterious man from her dreams, she had started to forget the reality of her existence. She had begun to question the very rules she’d been raised under. When she met him in person, when he held her in his arms, she forgot herself entirely.

Butwhat if it’s too late for me?she murmured, her voice barely audible.

mustn’t!He shook his head frantically. Stop yourself. Stop beforeyou end up heartbroken.”

He seemed to plead, but his words fell on deaf ears. Petal stood motionless, the words You’ll end up heartbroken,” echoing in her mind like a death sentence.

Silently she walked away from him, heading toward the flower garden. She stood there, surrounded by the vibrant colors, but her heart was heavy. Her gaze drifted toward the cliff, and she felt a pull, a need to be with him. She knew Dread would be waiting for her, just as he always was. But Silaswarningthose wordsthey chained her to the earth. Aran’s words as well.

Petal sank to her knees in the garden, her mind awash with turmoil. She stared blankly at the cliff before her, her heart heavy with an impossible question: What if the Goddess had fallen in love with her soulmate? Would she still have ended up heartbroken? Would she have lost everything?

Tears slipped down her cheeks as she recalled Dread’s promise to her, to live and die with her. She whispered his name softly, but it did nothing to ease the ache inside her.

Her heart felt like it was breaking in two, and yetshe couldn’t stop herself. Everyone was telling her not to love, and just stop herself.

But nownow she wanted to see whether the promise of living and dying together was true or not.

If I am going to be heartbrokenshe whispered, standing and walking slowly toward the edge of the cliff, Then I might as well face my consequences today.

The wind roared in her ears as she stared at the rocks far below, the cold, rushing river beneath. Closing her eyes, she threw herself forward, as if hoping the fall would end her confusion. She thought of all the little moments with him, the first kiss they shared, the warmth of his hand in hers, the papers where they wrote their names together, the softness of his touch as they lay together, the way he held her in his arms like she was his world.

Tears flooded her eyes as the wind whipped around her, her body hurtling toward the rocks below.

And thena hand caught her.

Heartbroken?he whispered fiercely.

Her eyes snapped open, her breath catching as she realized she wasn’t falling into the abyss. She was in his arms. Dread’s arms. He stood in the midst of the Lycan realm, his red aura burning fiercely around him like a wildfire, his eyes blazing with possessiveness and fury.

Dreadshe whispered, her tearfilled eyes shaken by the sight of him, his lycan side unleashed, his fury overwhelming. He really came

His lycan eyes glowed a deep, bloodred as he pulled her closer, his hands gripping her hair with an intensity that sent a shiver down her spine. What the fuck were you doing, Petal?he growled, his voice rough with anger and fear. How dare you do something so crazy? His breath was hot on her face, the possessive force in his voice shaking with emotion. “Why are you heartbroken?! Is it because of what I said that day? Is it because you couldn’t choose me?! Is it becauseHis grip tightened, and his voice trembled with a mix of rage and fear, You don’t love me?
