THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW
Chapter 280 Always
“What are you smiling at?” he asked, raising an eyebrow as he lifted her chin, his face dangerously close to hers. “Do you want a kiss, Petal?”
She smirked. “Isn’t it you who wants a kiss?”
He grinned, the hunger in his eyes turning more intense. “Did I get caught?” he said, leaning in to kiss her.
“Of course,” she replied, pushing him away playfully before darting away from him.
“Do you think you can run away from me?” he growled, a teasing
light in his voice as he chased after her.
Petal shrieked with laughter as she ran, but she could feel his speed gaining on her, the rush of air around her body making her heart race. Before she knew it, he had caught up, his strong arms wrapping around her and pulling her into a soft, yet playful tackle. They both collapsed onto the king–sized bed, and he began to tickle her mercilessly.
Her laughter echoed through the castle, light and free, while his gaze never left her. He watched her, taking in every moment like it was the most precious thing in the world. Petal, breathless from the tickling, caught a glimpse of his face, his eyes were filled with something deeper than just hunger now. It was possessiveness, affection, and deep longing.
After their playful moment, they stood together, and he gave her a tour of his castle. Petal noticed how, no matter where they went, the corridors were eerily quiet, pin–drop silent. Even the servants and guards seemed to move with an almost reverent respect, never making a sound.
“You live here alone?” she asked, breaking the silence as they passed through the halls.
“No,” he replied, glancing at her, his tone nonchalant. “There are other people here. Guards, servants, other lycans.”
Petal nodded, understanding that he must have preferred his solitude, his sanctuary. But the next place they visited caught her completely off guard.
As they entered a long corridor, they came across three lycans and one of the men in his human form who had dragged her into the castle that day. The three of them were kneeling before her, their expressions full of remorse and guilt. But they looked badly beaten and barely able to kneel.
When they saw her, they bowed their heads to the ground, their voices low and full of regret. “Please forgive us for mistreating you, my Queen!”
Petal stood frozen for a moment, taken aback by the sudden shift in the atmosphere. My

Queen? She hadn’t expected this at all.

“Umm…it’s okay,” she said hesitantly, unsure of how to respond to their apology.
One of the men, sitting slightly ahead of the others, spoke up. “It is your kindness, my Queen, but we truly committed an unforgivable crime. Because of us, you might have gotten the wrong impression of our kingdom, and misunderstood our lord…”
Petal glanced at the man by her side. His expression was cold and scaring the shit of the lycans. “Did you…beat them?”
“No, I am a gentleman you see,” he waved his hand at them to leave.
Petal gave him a tight smile. Their condition was telling her clearly how gentlemanly this lycan was.
“That day my rut hit so suddenly and so violently that my people lost their senses. They panicked. Since I came of age, I have always endured my rut alone, but this time…it was deadlier than ever. They acted without my knowledge and went searching for a woman to calm me,” he explained.
Petal blinked up at him. She had seen with her own eyes how much agony he’d been in that day, how feral and uncontrollable his lycan had become. Yet a wave of butterflies rushed through her stomach at the realization that…he hadn’t been with anyone. He had endured all that pain alone.
She had gathered enough information about a lycan’s rut after that day. She understood now what it meant. What it demanded.
“But…why do they call me ‘queen‘?”
The corner of his lips curled up. “The mate of the Lycan King so that would make you queen…right?”
Her heartbeat quickened, a strange pressure blooming in her chest. Her suspicion that he was not an ordinary lycan tightened into truth. “You–you are the Lycan King.”
He tilted his head, amused by her shock. “The first Lycan King of my realm,” he corrected with a handsome, effortless smile before continuing the tour.
Petal enjoyed every second with him, his voice, his presence, the subtle brush of his hand on her back. Each touch sent sparks racing across her skin, making her heart flutter uncontrollably. She was falling harder… far harder than she should.
But as evening settled, the reality she’d run from finally returned. She had to go back. To the temple. To the people who raised her. To the hundreds of women of Elysium Haven who would be waiting for their Queen:

“Don’t go,” his possessiveness burned through his violet eyes, his reluctance painfully obvious. He wanted her to stay. Forever.
Petal’s heart clenched painfully. “I–I can’t stay. I have a life too…you know.” she could not tell him anymore. Other than her protectors, no one should know about her powers and identity. Moreover, because of the power of her temple and the territory, he was unaware of where she came from or anything about her.
When she turned to leave, he didn’t release her hand. “You will come back…right?” his eyes had a storm.
She swallowed softly. “That day, you asked me who I am…” Her voice trembled with guilt, “But I can never give you that answer. You brought me into your world, showed me everything here… but I…” Her words cracked faintly, “I can never do the same.”
