She glanced down at the official portrait of herself seated shouldertoshoulder beside him.

The embossed leather cover and gilded state seal marked it irrevocably official—from this moment on, they were legally bound in marriage.
Back in the car, the mood shifted subtly.
Sebastian tucked the marriage license away, started the engine, and turned to her. “What’s next? Do you… want to meet my parents?”
Riley was about to agree when her phone buzzed.
It was Raymond.
She answered, and his frantic voice spilled out immediately. “Riley! Where are you?! You said you’d be back in a month–yesterday was the day! We haven’t heard a thing from you! Dad’s going out of his mind worrying–pacing around the house like he’s wearing a hole in the floor. I swear he’s got five new gray hairs already!”
Hearing that familiar, over–the–top tone, Riley felt a swell of warmth in her chest, and a soft smile found its way to her lips.
She kept her reply light. “Relax, Raymond. I’m actually in Nexopolis now… with Sebastian.”
She was just about to drop the news about the marriage, but Raymond cut her off with an even louder burst of excitement.
‘Wait–you’re back?! And you’re with Sebastian?!” His voice was practically vibrating. Not letting her get a word in, he rushed on, ‘Where are you guys? I’ll come get you–no, actually, just head straight to Harper Mansion! Everyone’s been waiting for you!”
Then, before Riley could respond, the call cut off.
He’d probably hung up in a rush to go tell Zavier the news.
Riley lowered her phone, shaking her head slightly.
Meanwhile, Sebastian checked a message from his assistant. Leaning closer, he told her quietly, “My parents had a last–minute emergency meeting pop up. They flew out to the next state last night and won’t be back for a few days.”
So their plans aligned perfectly after all.
Riley paused, then met Sebastian’s eyes. “Well… do you want to come with me to the Harpers‘ first, then?”
‘Absolutely,” Sebastian replied without hesitation.
Then he added, “Should we tell them we’re already married?”
Riley shook her head, her gaze steady and clear. “Let’s hold off. We can wait until your parents are back, then arrange a dinner with both families and tell everyone together. I’m not sure how things stand at the Harpers‘ yet. If we announce it now without any heads–up, it might come across as disrespectful–like we didn’t care enough to include them.”
She didn’t want to risk straining her newly rekindled family ties over something like this.
Sebastian watched her thinking it through, and didn’t push. A fond smile touched his lips. “Whatever you think is best.”

He then pulled out his phone and texted his assistant to pick up some high quality gifts suitable for a first family visit.
Meanwhile, at Harper Mansion…

Raymond had barely ended the call before bounding down the stairs, his face bright with excitement. He announced to everyone in the living room, “Dad! Mom! Riley’s coming home this afternoon!”
Zavier, who’d been reading the financial section, let the paper fall into his lap with a soft rustle.
His usually stern business demeanor melted into an unreserved, broad smile, the lines around his eyes deepening. “Is that right? She’s really coming back? Wonderful… just wonderful.”
Riley had been his favorite from the day she was born.
