Chapter 386 Sharper and More Level–Headed
Riley raised an eyebrow slightly. She understood.
So that’s it. That bait Brandon dangled when he chased me to Nexopolis–this project is what he is really after.
She paused to think. In her mind, she quickly mapped out the power structure of the Havenbrook business world.
Brandon was a little unpredictable, sure. But in business? The guy was a shark.

“Raymond, I actually have a friend in Nexopolis who’d probably be very interested in this project. Do you think Dad would be open to meeting him?” Riley asked carefully.
“Oh?” Raymond’s interest piqued immediately. “A friend of yours–someone from Havenbrook?”
“Yeah.” Riley nodded. “Brandon. You know him?”
Raymond frowned, searching his memory for a moment. Then he said slowly, “I think I’ve seen him on the financial news. The Edwards family in Havenbrook? Word is–he’s extremely smooth. Ambitious, too.”
“That’s right.” Riley laid it out calmly. “In just a few years, he pulled together all the scattered entertainment businesses in Havenbrook and became the top player in that game. He only got into smart tech recently, but the speed at which he’s expanding and innovating? It’s impressive. Personally, I trust his instincts.”
She saw that Raymond still looked a little unsure. So she kept going, “As for ambition–honestly, ambition in a partner isn’t a bad thing. If there’s enough profit on the table, he’ll want this project to succeed even more than we do. Harper Group is an old family business. It’s been comfortable in Nexopolis for way too long. If we don’t bring in some new energy–something strong, maybe even a little aggressive–our management style and market instincts are going to go stale. And that staleness? That’s the beginning
of the end.”
Raymond’s eyes got brighter and brighter. He looked at Riley–so sharp, so far–sighted–and his last bit of doubt disappeared.
“Damn–Riley. You really cut right to the heart of things.” Raymond couldn’t help but slap the desk, his eyes full of admiration. “I’m not gonna lie–I’ve been thinking about this exact thing lately. Dad’s more conservative—he wants to play it safe. But I feel like if we keep doing that, we’re going to miss our window. Since you’re recommending him, I’ll go talk to Dad. Get this meeting set up as soon as possible.”
Riley gave a nod. “Good. But Raymond, I need to say something first.”

She pushed the blue project proposal back to him, her expression serious. Her cool eyes held a wisdom beyond her years. “I’m the one introducing him. But as for Brandon’s character, his capabilities, and whether his proposal makes sense–that’s for your professional team to figure out. Should we work with him in the end? That decision is up to you and Dad.
“I just got back to this family. My footing at the company is still shallow–that’s just the reality. I can give my opinion. But that’s all it is. An opinion. You get what I’m saying?”
Raymond blinked, then gave a firm nod. He let out a sigh of admiration. “Riley, I get it. I’m impressed–you’ve really thought this through.”
He had been worried–worried that coming back to this kind of wealthy family might make Riley impulsive, that she might want to prove herself too fast, get blinded by all the power and money.
But honestly? She was sharper and more level–headed than he’d even imagined.

Riley’s return to the Harper family was already à sensitive thing. God only knew how many eyes were hiding in the shadows, watching her every move.
If she started taking over a multi–billion–dollar project the second she showed up—if she acted too controlling–the people who already didn’t want her back would use it against her
