Riley and Raymond walked out of the study together and ran into Zavier, who had just come home.

Zavier’s eyes swept over Raymond’s face–noticeably more relaxed and happier than before. He had a pretty good idea why.

Whatever it is, Riley must have given him some fresh ideas about that stalled island project.

But Zavier didn’t push for details right away. He calmly handed his coat to a servant, then gave Riley a warm nod.

She’s staying the night. Plenty of time to talk.

As the servants got dinner ready, Riley went upstairs to her room.

The room hadn’t changed since the last time she’d seen it–still big, still bright, still carrying a faint “new” smell. The only difference was the huge bookshelf. Last time, it had been empty. Now, it was packed.

Riley stepped closer and let her eyes drift over the spines–Financial Markets, Business Game Theory, Modern Corporate Management, all classics in her field, plus the latest journals.

Raymond. Or Zavier. Had to be.

That quiet thoughtfulness made something in Riley’s chest loosen a little.

She pulled out a book without really thinking about it, a smile tugging at her lips.

Just then, her phone screen lit up. A message from Sebastian popped up. He typed, “How’s it going? Anyone giving you a hard

time?”

Riley leaned against the bookshelf, flipping through the book with one hand, and typed back, “It’s fine. Still feels a little strange, but I’m good at adapting.”

A few seconds later, Sebastian called.

‘Good at adapting, huh?” His deep, raspy voice came through the speaker. “That means someone made you uncomfortable, and you handled it yourself.”

Riley could picture him frowning on the other end. She laughed. “Mr. Torres, you’ve still got a very unique way of reading between

the lines.”

She changed the subject. “Did you tell your parents we’re not coming back until tomorrow? Were they upset?”

“No.” Sebastian’s voice softened. “My mom has some summit to go to in Haleria anyway. My dad’s happy I’m staying away longer so I don’t annoy him.”

They chatted about nothing in particular. Outside the window, the sky slowly turned dark.

Then, with a soft knock on the door, Raymond called out, “Riley, dinner’s ready.”

At the table, the whole family was together for once.

Zavier sat at the head. Melissa was next to him. Raymond and Riley sat on one side, with Elsie right beside Melissa.

Two dishes in, Elsie blinked her big, innocent eyes and looked at Riley. “Riley, why didn’t Sebastian come back with you? Did you two… have a fight?”

Riley’s hand paused on her fork. Her brow twitched–barely noticeable. Then she answered flatly, “No. He’s busy with work.”

Raymond found it annoying.

He put down his fork, his face darkening a little. He spoke with the authority of an older brother. “Elsie, stop talking nonsense. Sebastian is Riley’s fiancé. Their relationship is solid. Why would they break up over nothing?”

Chast sed, Elsie stuck out her tongue playfully. “Sorry, Raymond. I was just worried about Riley, that’s all.”
