Her gaze turned sharp and unrelenting. “So what if I did? What exactly are you so stunned about?

“You deceived me for five full years, treating me like a fool. I contributed endlessly to you, to the Ashford family, and to Ashford Group’s business expansion. How did your family repay

“Every single one of you colluded to lie to me. You thought an orphan with no powerful background was unworthy of the Ashfords, that I deserved to swallow every grievance in silence. Your family was free to hurt me deeply, yet I’m not allowed to fight back?”

The muscles in Lucas‘ jaw tensed violently. He stared at the unfamiliar woman before him, forcing each word out through clenched teeth. “When did you find out you’re part of the Harper family?”

Riley arched an eyebrow casually. “I learned the truth while negotiating projects for you in Nexopolis. I was overjoyed to reunite with my birth parents. I’d even planned to share the news with you as an anniversary surprise.”

A bitter, ironic smile spread across her face. “But you beat me to it with your own huge surprise. You chose Sophia, you chose deception–and you should have known this day would come.”

“This is impossible!” Lucas shot to his feet, slamming both palms hard against the conference table. Bloodshot eyes blazed as he roared, “Wake up, Riley! A man of Sebastian’s status can never love you truly! He only wants your Harper family background and the benefits your family can bring him!”
