Every single one had frozen in place, jaws dropped in utter shock, staring straight in their direction.
They exchanged stunned glances, unable to believe what they had just witnessed.
A faint, fond smile touched Sebastian’s lips.
He chose not to probe into the sudden shift in her mood, simply relishing the feeling of being wholeheartedly relied on and publicly claimed by her.
He did not start the car again until Riley’s figure vanished into the elevator lobby.
Neither realized someone was watching from the garage’s dark corner. Cold eyes stared unblinkingly at where they’d shared an intimate moment.

Back at her office, Riley switched instantly into work mode and stayed buried in tasks until the afternoon.
While refining details of a cross–border trade contract, the office’s internal line rang abruptly.
The receptionist’s voice held polite urgency on the other end. “Ms. Harper, a client is here for a potential collaboration. They’ve requested a direct meeting with the Marketing Director.”
Riley’s pen paused above the document, her brows furrowing slightly. “Walk–in meetings require prior appointments. Which company are they representing?”
“We’ve verified their credentials. It’s a large overseas multinational firm listed in our official cooperation directory, fully qualified for partnership,” the receptionist explained promptly.
There was no reason to turn down a legitimate, high–quality business opportunity.
Riley gave a calm response. “Understood. Escort them to Meeting Room Two. I’ll be there shortly after preparing myself.”
She set aside her files, tidied her attire briefly, and headed for the meeting room.
However, the second she pushed open the door, a vaguely familiar figure came into view.

A man stood before the floor–to–ceiling windows. Dressed in a tailored suit, he exuded an oppressive, gloomy aura that put people on edge.
He did not turn around at the sound of the door opening. Cold, mocking sarcasm drifted from his lips first. “Long time no see, Riley.”
The familiar voice halted Riley’s steps at once.
Lucas turned slowly, his sharp eyes sweeping over her figure. A meaningful, cold smile played on his lips.
The gentle warmth she had once admired in his features was gone, replaced entirely by twisted pride and competitiveness. “Should I keep calling you Riley, or address you as the celebrated Ms. Harper, the returning heiress of Harper Group?”
A fleeting moment of surprise passed before Riley regained perfect composure.
She quickly pieced together the truth. Lucas had used shares in his overseas company as a legal cover to gain entry.
It did not surprise her that he had discovered her early return to Nexopolis, cutting short her supposed global vacation.
Paranoid and arrogant by nature, Lucas would dig relentlessly for the truth once he realized he had been deceived.
Her public travel announcement had only been a means to buy herself breathing room, to avoid being tangled in messy personal affairs the moment she returned home.
No emotion crossed Riley’s face. She closed the door behind her, walked to the main seat, and sat down, her tone icy and unyielding.
“Who are you trying to impress with this righteous anger, Lucas? You’re the one who wronged me first.”
Embarrassment flashed across Lucas‘ features. His haughty facade crumbled slightly under her unshakable calm.
Her poise acted like a mirror, laying bare his empty bluff and inner unease.
He realized abruptly that Riley most likely knew every last detail of his hidden past.
