Chapter 724 The Moment Hope Returned
The zombies crashed through the front line like a tidal surge. The steel barricade folded in one violent sweep, dropping across the field as if someone had kicked out the supports beneath a dam.
Chaos erupted instantly. People ran for their lives while the swarm chased them toward the second defensive ring.
Armored trucks sped along the road as zombies rushed after them, their frantic and rapid strides making their sprints seem inhuman.
One truck fell slightly behind the rest. A brutal slam hit the roof, shaking the chassis as a speed–type mutant zombie dropped onto it.
This one had shredded sweatpants. Its face was a blurred, rotten mess, but its legs stayed sharply defined with thick muscle cords.
Mutated skin tightly encased the tendons, bulging like coiled metal weights. Its torso retained terrifying strength. A gash across its chest exposed clean strands of raw red muscle and yellow–white fat twisting underneath the skin.
“Hhh, hhh, hhh…” The runner zombie jerked its massive head and rammed the armored door with force.
The reinforced slab bent inward with a loud crack. A narrow break formed, just wide enough for the creature’s warped claws to punch through.
Razor–thin nails tore across the steel frame, spraying metal flakes.
Inside, Landon fixed his gaze on the claw breaking in. His sleepless, bloodshot eyes sharpened.
“Look out!”
Julian lunged forward from the back row, drawing a dagger to slash at the invading claws.
Metal screeched against bone, a harsh, grating scrape.
He fought on instinct. His jaw locked, muscles coiling as he poured everything into a second swing. One mangled finger snapped off. Then another. A handful of twisted digits hit the floor.
Right as the last piece fell–wham–the entire door ripped off its hinges.
The mutilated hand he had just severed–now a row of dripping black pits–lunged inward with monstrous force.
“Rragggghh!”
Four or five more zombies threw themselves at the opening in the same instant, bodies slamming into the truck as they tried to break in.
Landon froze at the wheel for half a second. His pupils ghtened, and he fired off the final breath of ability inside him.
Aeroshield burst outward, pushing all zombies away from the vehicle. The truck quickly lost its stability.
It skidded across the frozen ground for several feet before the second defensive line–roughly 160 feet ahead–rushed up fast.

“We’re not leaving you!” Julian and the rest leapt out first dragged Landon with them, grabbed their weapons, and sprinted toward the second line.
Up ahead on the wall, fighters held their ground with raw desperation, covering the retreating group while barely staying upright themselves.
Exhaustion coated the entire front.
Three straight days of fighting had driven everyone to rely on stimulants and liquor just to stay awake. Those just stopped working hours ago.
Kyle gazed over the battlefield from the high wall, his eyes bloodshot. More soldiers sank to their knees, with some intentionally collapsing into the zombie horde, allowing the undead to kill them.
When despair hovered like a storm cloud over the last human stronghold, a deep rhythmic hum suddenly rolled through the sky.
Rotor blades.
Kyle blinked upward, dazed. Recognition struck like lightning.
She’s back… She’s really back!
Fire burst through his expression as he yelled, “Theresa’s back!”
The moment her helicopter crossed the horizon, something ignited across Ansford.
People on the brink of collapse felt a surge tear through their chests, sharp as a jolt from a defibrillator. Numb hopelessness shattered.
No one cared that she remained unconscious. Her presence alone changed the air.
Word shot through the stronghold and across all three Ark Camps in minutes.
Theron caught the news.
Lucas caught it next.
Tania caught it as well.
Kyle, Quentin, Tyger, Elias, and Landon received it together.
