Love Won Twice
HANNAH’S POV:
“You’re my absolute best friend,” Martin continued. “My comfort when everything feels overwhelming. My chaos when life gets too boring. My home, no matter where we are. You’re the only person I want to annoy for the rest of my life.”
Lucas let out an ugly, choking sob that was somehow still adorable.
Martin’s hands were shaking so badly as he opened the ring box to reveal a sleek silver band with subtle detailing. It was absolutely perfect for Lucas’s style, simple and elegant but meaningful.
I happened to know it was perfect because Martin had called me several times while ring shopping, asking my opinion and bonding with me over trying to find the perfect one.
We all smiled, tears streaming down multiple faces now, as Martin finally asked the question we’d all been waiting for.
“So I’m asking you, Lucas James Anderson, will you marry me? Will you let me be the person who gets to love you forever?”
Lucas let out another sob, this one even messier and more emotional. “YES!” he practically shouted. What the hell, of course yes! Are you kidding me right now? Obviously yes!”
Martin stood up quickly and they crashed together in a hug, kissing each other deeply and dramatically while everyone around them erupted.
The backyard absolutely exploded with cheering, screaming, clapping, and happy crying.
Cherry burst into full hysterical tears. Maya screamed loudly enough that I was pretty sure our neighbors three houses down heard it. My face was actually hurting from smiling so hard.
Elijah came up behind me smoothly, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind. His breath warmed the side of my neck in that way that always made me shiver.
“This is a really good night,” he whispered against my skin.
I leaned back into him, my eyes still glued to Lucas and Martin who were now sobbing and laughing together on the ground. I watched as Amelia and Andrew, who’d been watching from the patio, ran over and started throwing rose petals on the newly engaged couple in pure excitement.
“It’s a perfect night,” I agreed, my voice thick with happy tears.
