HANNAH’S POV:
A WEEK LATER:
“Yes Cherry for the last time, I already packed everything I would need.” I spoke on the phone as I sat in the back of the SUV.
I had been indoors scribbling and drawing and designing. I had this sudden motivation after the police that I could do anything and whoever intentionally burnt down my establishment knew how huge my collection was going to be so I had to achieve it, as a revenge to them and to honour my mum.
The greatest comeback is success after all.
After I had broken down after the police came, the next morning I was back to myself. I woke up and prepared waffles, eggs, sausage, made fresh orange juice for the family and even invited Lucas and Mr and Mrs Martinez, who had just arrived from their trip and had sent flowers and gifts to me a few days before, for breakfast as it was a Saturday.
Elijah stared at me with concern and gently walked up to me, and asked, “Baby, please tell me you’re okay…”
He looked so scared like he was genuinely scared that I was having a mental breakdown, and I answered calmly, ” Elijah….honey…I can’t keep wailing in loss, I need to move forward. I need to take care of my family. I’m sorry for ignoring you…”
“No, you have nothing to be sorry for. I’m just glad you’re feeling better. I will work with you to ensure that you get back on your feet. And I have gotten a few places I think you will love.” He embraced me and spoke like he had been dying to tell me for a while.
“You have an investor as a husband and not just an investor but a billionaire, let me help.” He said softly and I couldn’t do anything but smile.
He was amazing, so intentional and I appreciated God for him every day. Mr and Mrs Martinez joined for breakfast and we all ate and were merry. Amelia and Andrew talked about a bully who had been trying to pick on Amelia but Andrew stood up to her but I was still concerned, so I made a mental note to still talk to Amelia about it and to go to the school and have a conversation with the principal.
Mrs Martinez had been especially vocal that morning, her elegant hands gesturing as she spoke. “Hannah, darling, you know we consider you our daughter. Whatever happened to your business, happened to our family. We don’t let family struggle.”
Mr Martinez nodded in agreement, his usually stern face softened with genuine care. “My wife is right. We’ve already spoken to our financial advisors. Whatever you need, it’s yours. No questions asked, no strings attached.”
I had felt tears prick my eyes then, but I blinked them back. “You’ve already done so much for me.”
“And we’ll do more,” Mrs Martinez insisted, reaching across the table to squeeze my hand. “That’s what family does.”
