The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 195

Aggression in Every Serve

HANNAH’S POV:

I smiled despite myself and hung up, glancing out the tinted window. The sun was bright, the sky painfully blue, the kind of day that dared you to be okay. For the first time in days, I didn’t feel like the brightness mocked me. It felt… inviting.

The city moved past my window in a blur of color and motion. People going about their lives, completely unaware that mine had recently burned to the ground. Literally. There was something oddly comforting about that. The world kept spinning whether you were ready or not.

Tennis was Cherry’s idea from the beginning and although today wasn’t our usual day to go, I liked to be invited out.

“You need to move your body,” she had insisted and even threatened to call my aunt or Mrs Martinez and report. Not pace around your studio like a tortured artist in a historical movie.”

She wasn’t wrong. I had been indoors for days, fueled by coffee and adrenaline, sketching nonstop. New silhouettes, new fabrics and new concepts.

When I arrived at the tennis club, Cherry was already there, stretching dramatically like she was auditioning for the Olympics.

“You’re late,” she said accusingly without even turning to look at me.

“You said ten.” I said as I glanced at my watch and furrowed my eyebrows.

“It’s ten-oh-three.” She responded with an attitude that just made me want to chuckle.

I rolled my eyes and grabbed my racket. “You’re pregnant. Relax.”

She grinned and said as she had been saying since she got pregnant and whenever she was getting on anyone’s nerves. “Exactly. I’m growing a human. I get to be dramatic.”

“You were dramatic before you got pregnant,” I pointed out, setting my bag down.

“True. But now I have a medical excuse for it.”

I laughed and it felt good. When was the last time I had genuinely laughed? The sound felt foreign in my own throat.

“Are you good though?” She asked, glancing at me as she picked up her racket. Her eyes were serious now, searching my face for cracks.

“I will be. How are YOU?” I asked, emphasizing on ‘her’ and she smiled. “Pregnant. But taken care of.”

Jacob really was taken care of and I knew she got on his last nerve but he was already getting used to it.

“He’s been amazing,” Cherry continued, her expression softening in that way it always did when she talked about Jacob. “Yesterday I cried because I wanted Thai food from that place downtown, but also Mexican food, but also ice cream. So he got all three and didn’t even complain.”

“That’s love,” I said.

“That’s fear,” she corrected with a grin. “Fear of a pregnant woman’s wrath.”

We were paired with two women already on the court both athletic, both friendly and both clearly regulars. One

had her hair in a sleek ponytail and a bright smile. The other wore a wide-brimmed visor and laughed easily. They were both very beautiful women, and sometimes whenever I came to the club, I wondered what their stories were. Everyone had one.

“I’m Paige,” the ponytail woman said, shaking my hand. “And this is Lila.”
