Then a brief moment passed, and his heart beat raced and he randomly sent the picture again to Jacob and asked, How old do these kids look?” and paced back at forth waiting.

Jacob responded tiredly, “Maybe seven or six or ten.”

Then he looked at Andrew’s picture noticing the same color of hair and with tears brimming in his eyes, he asked Jacob, “Could they be mine?”

She would tell me right? I needed to get answers.

After fresheJanet burst into her parents’ estate like a storm breaking through calm skies, her heels clacking against the polished marble floor as though announcing her excitement.

“Mama! Daddy! You won’t believe this!” she called, the pitch of her voice carrying all the way into the sitting room.

Her mother was the first to look up, lowering her magazine with a patient smile. “Janet, darling, what is it this time? You sound like a child who’s just been handed a sweet.”

Her father folded his newspaper with deliberate care before resting it on the arm of the chair. His voice, deep but not unkind, reached her in measured tones. “Come here, Janet. Sit down. Whatever has you so excitable, we’ll hear it.’

Janet dropped her purse onto the couch and perched on its edge, her face glowing with excitement. “It’s Hannah. She’s back. You remember what you always said about her not belonging in this family? Well, I saw it myself— Elijah filed for a divorce! Without telling anyone!”

Her mother’s eyes lit instantly, and she clasped her hands together. “Oh, darling, are you certain? This is wonderful news!”

Her father leaned forward, his expression gentle but probing. “Janet, slow down. How did you come across this information?”

Janet’s grin widened. “I found the papers. They fell out of Elijah’s briefcase, and I saw them. This is it, Daddy. This means he’s finally ready to propose to me. All this time, I knew he was holding back because of her, but not anymore. It’s really happening.”

Her mother clapped lightly, already daydreaming. “At last. You’ll make such a beautiful bride, my love.”

But her father reached over, laying a hand on hers. His voice softened. “Janet… listen to me carefully. If you read those papers properly, you’d know it was Hannah who signed them already. Elijah hasn’t. That’s important.”
