Mary’s Chance for Freedom
MARY’S POV:
The furious words booming through the phone speaker echoed loudly in my mind, sharp, terrifying, and completely damning.
“What the hell have you done now? You need to publicly strip that foolish woman away from our corporate na ne this very second!”
I stood there in the cold corridor, watching Alistair’s face go completely pale in an instant. His strong jaw tightened up so hard that I could see the muscles twitching under his skin, his trembling fingers clenching around his mobile phone until his knuckles turned ghost white. He opened his mouth to offer some kind of explanation to the angry board member, but not a single sound managed to come out of his throat. He looked exactly like a powerful man who had just been struck by a bolt of lightning, completely frozen right in his tracks and totally unable to process the terrible news he had just received. All the healthy color drained out of his cheeks, leaving his face looking gray, sick, and deeply shaken.
Sitting right there beside him, I felt a sharp, cold wave of deep satisfaction settle over my heart.
I stood completely still on the clean hospital floor, watching Alistair struggle desperately to gather his scattered thoughts, when a sudden realization washed over my mind. This was my single greatest opportunity to break free. The universe had unexpectedly handed me a powerful weapon to defend myself, and I would be an absolute fool if I did not step up to use it right now.
If I chose to give up my usual quiet lifestyle right now and step directly into the public spotlight, proving to the entire world that I was Alistair’s legally wedded wife while exposing Vesper as a calculating, dangerous homewrecker, the general public online would be far more willing to listen to my side of the story. My personal testimony would be almost impossible for his corporate team to silence or cover up at this exact moment. The entire internet was already burning with wild rumors, intense anger, and loud demands for the real truth. Countless ordinary people were desperately waiting to find out what was actually happening behind the closed doors of the wealthy Vane family.
If I could use this sudden public scandal to push opinion in my favor and demand an immediate legal divorce, I would no longer be completely trapped under Alistair’s absolute control. I would finally have a real chance to fight back against him. I would have an active voice in my own life, a way to protect myself, and a clear path toward freedom.
