Blood Doesn’t Lie
ELIJAH’S POV:
FEW DAYS LATER:
“Calling me to go golfing on a weekday is so unlike you.” Jacob pointed out as soon as he saw me at a distance
I was in a black polo shirt as well as some black pants. While Jacob was grinning in white shirt and white shorts with Gucci glasses. He was flexing his club and staring at the field, while I just stared at him with amusement.
He had no idea the reason behind my invitation and he was going to hate it even more.
“If this was at night, I would have been way creeped out with the way you keep staring at me. So you can tell me what’s going? Why aren’t even we hitting holes?” He chuckled at the last question and it’s double meaning and just rolled my eyes in a full circle.
Just before I responded, both our father came from inside glasses of drinks in their hands laughing deeply, “I know you didn’t just call me to spend my afternoon with these insufferable men.” He spoke through his gritted teeth and stared at me through the corner of his eyes and I playfully looked away.
“My superstar son!” His father excitedly said, and threw his hands across his shoulder.
“Good afternoon father.” Jacob greeted and shifted, only causing amusement to our father who took their seat and we joined them on the seat contrary to what I would like.
“See how he greets me like I’m some kind of priest or something. Always so uptight. Loosen up, let’s get you two drinks.” His father pointed out and instantly called the waiter.
I was about to speak pointing out that I didn’t want a drink but my father interrupted saying, “Don’t worry, son, we are not going to tell Janet you’ve been drinking. Have a drink or ten.” He laughed like he had said the most hilarious thing ever but I could only frown.
Do they think I quit drinking because of Janet? I had totally even forgotten about her until he mentioned her name. I was so focused on improving myself for myself, for Hannah and most importantly, maybe even for my kids.
One of Jacob and I’s greatest fears was ending up like our fathers. Although our fathers were both successful, they were just like this. They never took their relationship with their children seriously, everything was on the surface, as a matter of fact we barely even saw them while growing up. Whenever I did see my father, he was way too tired and was dismissive or complaining about my grades that ‘they weren’t good enough’. Now he just goes along with whatever my mother says, and makes life a living hell.
Before I become CEO, it was so hectic and every single decision I made and opinion I suggested was dumb. He had no issue embarassing me in front of his staff, he even treated outsider better than he treated me. Now, he occasionally chimes into the company, and although he asks for us to spend time together like this every two weeks, I always decline but today I accepted because I needed to talk to Jacob.
I could see the look of irritation on Jacob’s face as our fathers were handed the cigars, so I rose up to my feet and said, “We are going to go golfing, we will be back.”
We walked off with two clubs and a little ball bag and got into the golf cart, “Who even wears a black outfit to go golfing?” Jacob asked out the blue and I chuckled.
We arrived at the first stop and hit the ball straight ahead, “So remember that night I told you I went back to the hospital even after my mum was discharged and better.”
My mum had a high blood pressure, so she was brought that evening and as soon as I was done with work and just
