The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 49

The Governor’s Birthday

3RD POV:

THREE DAYS LATER:

The evening began with a whole lot of running around, glitters and Hannah’s quest for perfect. The house was alive with movement from the faint hum of the hairdryer, the scent of expensive perfume, and the sound of Lucas pacing down the hallway while humming a song under his breath.

The twins were taking a nap after they have completed their home school classes, and it was so perfect for Hannah, who had a whole lot to be done without the kids interrupting. They had been a sleep for an hour and she knew they would be up any minute but she was just adding some finishing touches.

Lucas smiled politely as Zina, who was both the hairstylist and a make up artist and a perfectionist, walked out and she politely nodded.

“Have a beautiful evening sir.” She smiled at him and walked down the stairs.

“Are you ready, diva?” he called, poking his head through the doorway of Hannah’s bedroom.

“Almost,” she answered from behind the dressing screen.

The silk of her gown whispered as she stepped out in a floor length champagne colored dress with subtle gold threading that shimmered each time she moved. Her hair was drawn into a low, elegant bun, and the earrings she wore were understated pearls with a touch of diamond. She looked timeless, almost unreal, as though she had been gotten from the pages of a fashion magazine.

Lucas pressed a hand to his chest dramatically. “I swear, if I weren’t already gay, this would be the moment I question everything.”

Hannah chuckled, adjusting the strap of her gown in the mirror. “I must really look good because you only say that every time I wear something phenomenal.”

“Because you never miss, honey. Never.” He snapped his fingers and grabbed his jacket which was a deep burgundy velvet blazer paired with slim black trousers. “Okay, let’s go. The Governor’s birthday won’t glam itself.”

They had been invited to the Governor of the state’s birthday party and Hannah had laughed at how excited Lucas had been.

Just before they left, Hannah quickly pointed out that she needed to check on the kids as they were always at the front of her mind especially since Amelia was sick. She got into the room and smiled seeing them still asleep.

She kissed the top of their forehead and whispered, “Mummy loves you.” To the both of them before dashing out.

The driver opened the door, and the two stepped into the cool night air. The city glowed with the glpw that promised both trouble and champagne which was all that was installed for tonight.

Lucas scrolled through his phone, muttering, “Okay, so according to the invite, it’s black-tie, seven-course dinner, and open bar. Don’t let me near the gin.”

“You say that now,” Hannah replied dryly, sliding into the back seat.

“I mean it this time,” he answered, crossing his heart. “Last time, I ended up crying about how men don’t appreciate velvet suits

She laughed softly, and for a moment, she was calm. “Will he be there tonight?”

Lucas already knew who she was referring to and he simply answered, “I don’t know, and I definitely don’t care.
