Nothing Stayed Buried
HANNAH’S POV:
That same night:
The atmosphere in the room was feastfull, everyone was talking amongst themselves and I was laughing and getting to know Cherry and for some reason I think it made both Elijah and Jacob pleased. I remembered I was still married to Elijah and it was the goal of every best friend for their wives to be friends and to get along, and although it was cute, it just seemed to aggravate me.
“The food is so amazing. Wow.” Matteo, Lucas’ date, exclaimed, drawing my attention as he tried yet another plate of the different delicacies and I almost laughed out loud seeing the look on Lucas’ face.
His date had had about five plates of food in the span of thirty minutes and I brushed it off that he might just have a large appetite and he was right, the food was truly delicious but it seemed like Lucas wasn’t having it one bit. I guess Matteo had no idea how fast Lucas got the ick and how quick he was to drop anybody based on it.
We both locked eyes and chuckled in a hushed tone but attention was still drawn towards us, since Jacob was speaking about the next season and how excited he was but yet he could already feel the fatigue beforehand. He and Cherry looked like a very beautiful couple though I wondered how they made things work since they were both so focused on their careers but I guess ‘love’ conquered all. I noticed how she had stared at the kids and wondered if she was either pregnant and was thinking of taking time off to raise children.
Elijah glanced at me and I darted my eyes to the kids who were eating slowly and talking to themselves, they were just in their little world and I couldn’t help but love that for them.
After another thirty minutes had passed and some others were devouring the dessert, I was drinking my glass of wine and still had my second plate of food in front of me.
“I assumed your parents would be joining us.” Cherry pointed out to Elijah and I scoffed, turning everyone’s attention to me.
“Your parents…. How are they? How is your mum?….” I asked and just as Elijah was about to speak, I remembered I couldn’t even hate them.
“You know what, don’t answer that. I just remembered it was my parents who came up with the lie that I had locked Janet in the trunk just to get married to you. I don’t blame them for hating me, everything just falls back to my parents.” I spoke out loud and fed myself with a piece of a stake.
