The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 85

An Unexpected Spark

HANNAH’S POV:

Lucas shot him a glare but couldn’t stop the corner of his mouth from twitching. “Don’t make me laugh, I’m too angry for humor right now

“You sure you don’t want me to track him down?” Martin said lightly. “I’m excellent at verbal violence.”

“Thanks, but the police will do,” Lucas muttered, rubbing his temples. “I just… I’m tired, Hannah, Maybe love isn’t for people like me.”

I frowned, sitting beside him. “That’s not true. You just keep falling for the wrong ones and it’s probably because you’re still discovering what exactly you want. You could have never imagined that Matteo would ever be a stalker/ and out there slashing your tires.”

Lucas placed a piece of steak in his mouth and muttered, “You’re right.”

“And we love you, Uncle Lucas.” The twins said in unison and Lucas ruffled up Andrew’s hair making him laugh.

The conversation drifted to Martin who revealed he was working in real estate and lived an hour away from here in a neighboring state and loved how things were slower there in comparison to the busy city here.

“Elijah and I were not close growing up because…..you’ve met Elijah right?” Everyone laughed out loud at his words except Elijah who looked bored.

Within minutes, everyone began to relax. The familiar banter returned the kind that felt like a salve after the day’s disappointments.

Elijah looked drained, though he tried to hide it, his expression smoothing into polite composure. It was glaring he was still so angry and disappointed by his parents actions.

“I have been disappointed and heartbroken by parents that their actions no longer farce me. Neither do I even seek their approval or validation. I hope you all don’t care either.” Martin pointed out with a look that screamed he meant what he said.

Elijah muttered, “For sure and I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.”

The two brother shared a look and it made me a smile.

Dinner turned into a space place and it was like a quiet, almost cozy affair. And conversation The twins chatted about their school projects, and Martin listened with amusement, teasing Andrew about wanting to become an engineer.

Lucas’s presence brought warmth to the table as well. He was animated again, telling funny stories about work, gesturing with his fork like a performer. Then he glanced at Martin and froze mid-sentence.

“Wait,” Lucas said slowly, narrowing his eyes. “You look… really familiar. Were you at the Silverline Gala last December?”

Martin paused, lips quirking. “Possibly.”

“You were the one on the piano platform,” Lucas said, eyes widening. “In the white suit. I remember because I flew all the way there and I was grouchy all through until the piano played.”

The table went silent for a moment before Martin chuckled softly. “Can’t say I recall, but I’m flattered either Way.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, the corners of his lips lifting in a teasing grin. “Neither confirming nor denying, huh?”
