The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 88

A Few Days Earlier:

The sky was dim that evening, the kind of grayish hue that made everything feel heavy and cinematic/perfect for a conversation that could change everything. I’d driven straight from the boutique to my parents’ mansion, and it was starting to feel like suffocation and it’s probably because it was a reminder that I had failed in attaining my goal of moving away from here.

The guard at the gate recognized my car and opened it immediately and greeted me with a huge smile.

At least someone was excited to see me.

Since the breakup with Elijah, it was like I was a disappointment to my friends and they were suddenly embarassed to have me around. It made my heart clench when I went to join them for brunch the other day and they were all whispered before I joined them and when I got there I could see the fake smiles plastered on their faces.

They had asked so many questions that made me want to scream at the top of my lungs, like

What have you been up to? I heard you’ve been blacklisted in the modeling industry for incompetence.

Back to your parents’ mansion right?

And after sipping a few cocktails and martinis, they had loosened up and began to ask the questions that were really on their minds, though I had lied and stated that I was starting my make-up brand and I was staying in one of my condos upstate but they stared at me with amusement.

So how have you been since you got ditched for your sister who apparently was the original wife?

Let me get this straight…he was married to Hannah and she left him for seven years, and you quickly swooped in and he used for years to satisfy his ego and pleasure and now that she’s back, in a heart beat he threw you to the curb.

Maria laughed tucking her hair behind ears and right before I could say anything, the girls laughed along with her until one pointed out the huge diamond ring on her hands.

“No way! Girl, he proposed?” She instantly showed off her ring and I swallowed.
