Chapter 1
My brother just returned from overseas deployment. I booked him the presidential suite at my husband’s five–star
hotel.
The moment we check in, the front desk manager SNAPS my key card in half.
“Some wannabe bodyguard thinks she can waltz into OUR presidential suite?”
She points right at my face, pure poison in her voice.
“This is MR. BLACKWOOD’S house, sweetheart!”
“Mr. Blackwood gave me permanent rights to this suite, so back off!”
And suddenly everything clicks. My husband’s late nights. The perfume on his shirts. This bitch acting like she owns the place.
I want to laugh. That property deed upstairs has BOTH our names on it.
But I stay silent. Just watch her.
Watch this pathetic show.
Watch her DIG HER OWN FUCKING GRAVE.
My brother just got back from peacekeeping overseas, so I booked him into the presidential suite at my husband’s
five–star hotel.
The second we finish checking in, the front desk manager snaps my key card in half.
“A fucking bodyguard thinks he can stay in our presidential suite?”
The manager points right at me, her voice dripping with spite.
“Look around, bitch. This is Mr. Blackwood’s empire!”
“Mr. Blackwood already gave me permanent rights to this site, so who the fuck do you think you are?”
I’m about to lose it. That property deed upstairs has BOTH o names on it.
She smirks and hits the intercom hard.

Chapter 1
“Connect me to the executive floor NOW. We have some random troublemaker down here causing problems. Tell Mr. Blackwood to handle this personally!”
The line goes dead with a sharp buzz.
Front desk manager Sarah slams the phone down, that victorious grin spreading across her face.
She kicks the broken key card pieces across the floor.
“Just wait.”
“Mr. Blackwood’s coming down himself.”
She looks me up and down like I’m dirt.
“God, I can’t WAIT to watch security throw you out on your ass.”
My brother Jake stands beside me, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles are cracking.
He just got back from deployment overseas, still carrying that look of exhaustion and war in his eyes.
I booked him this suite at my husband Connor’s hotel so he could finally get some real rest.
Instead, we’re dealing with this bullshit.
“Sis, why are we even talking to this bitch?”
Jake’s voice is low, barely containing his rage.
“People like her need to be thrown the fuck out.”
I grab his arm and shake my head slightly.
My eyes drift to that gold–plated sign reading “Blackwood International Hotel.”
Ten years of marriage, and this is the first time I’m seeing how Connor’s empire treats their guests.
Or should I say… how they treat ME.
Sarah’s eating up my silence like candy.
She straightens up and starts putting on a show for the other staff.
“What are you all staring at? Never seen some desperate gold–digger lose her mind before?”
“Thinks knowing Mr. Blackwood’s name gives her the right to trash our hotel.”

Chapter 1
“Well, today you’re gonna see what happens to trash like this”
The stares around us are mixed some pity, some curiosity, but mostly fear.
Fear of the “Mr. Blackwood” Sarah keeps throwing around.
Fear of the power she thinks she represents.
I don’t say a word. Just watch her.
Watch her little performance.
Watch her dig her own grave deeper with every breath.
The elevator dings softly.
The numbers start dropping slowly from the top floor – “68.”
Sarah’s smile gets wider and nastier.
She smooths down her perfectly tailored manager blazer, adjusting her neckline just right.
Like she’s not about to witness a shitshow, but her own fucking coronation.
Ice runs through my veins.
Connor.
My husband.
Let’s see how you handle this “random troublemaker” situation.
This is almost funny.
That property deed locked away in my safe upstairs has BOTH our names on it.
Or is that just worthless paper now?
The lobby goes dead silent.
Nothing but elevator numbers ticking down and Sarah’s breathing getting faster and faster.
The anticipation in her eyes is practically spilling over.
