Adela finally broke into a delighted laugh. "I believe you, I believe you! I'm just so wonderfully surprised! Alright, I'll send people over right away. We'll make sure she's taken care of perfectly!" Even after she finished speaking, her cheerful laughter echoed through the phone, along with the sound of her excitedly telling her husband the news. "Did you hear that? Jamison said Ivy's pregnant! She's pregnant! We're finally getting another grandchild!"
Even from a distance, Ivy could feel the immense joy and excitement radiating from his mother. As a modern, independent woman, she had never defined herself by her ability to have children. But in that moment, she felt that creating a life—a child with the man she loved—was the most beautiful and blissful thing in the world.
After ending the call with his mother, Jamison called his driver and asked him to come to the hospital. Once he hung up, he continued to gently caress his wife's hand, the smile never leaving his face. "You should go home when the driver gets here. I've got doctors and nurses looking after me."
Ivy knew he would be well cared for at the hospital. His status alone ensured it, and besides, all the medical staff knew and admired him. They would take excellent care of him. Still, she felt uneasy. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"
"I'm sure. Go home and get some rest," he insisted.
Then, Jamison remembered something else. "You were so eagerly preparing to join Vastmark International Capital after graduation. What are your plans now that you're pregnant?"
It had all happened so suddenly that Ivy hadn't had a chance to think about it. At her husband's question, she paused for a moment. "My thesis defense is coming up soon, and after that, it's just the graduation ceremony. As for the job, I haven't given them a final answer yet. The next time they contact me, I'll explain the situation. If they don't mind me taking maternity leave after six months, I'll take the job. If they do, I'll put my career on hold for a bit. I can focus on the pregnancy and work on getting the professional certifications I've been wanting to study for."
She always had a backup plan, determined never to waste a moment.
Jamison listened, feeling a mix of admiration and sympathy. "Working while pregnant is tough. You don't have to put yourself through that."
