Naylor was in the middle of a business dinner and had had a bit too much to drink. When he answered Jamison's call, he slurred, "What's up? Why are you still awake so late?"
Jamison frowned slightly, deliberately poking at the sore spot. "And why are you still drinking this late? Did you have a fight with your girlfriend? Drowning your sorrows?"
Naylor responded with a string of curses.
Jamison was in too good a mood to care. After his friend finished his tirade, he said calmly, "I just called to tell you that my wife is pregnant. I'm going to be a father. Alright, you can go back to your drinking now!"
He pulled the phone away from his ear but still clearly heard the second wave of curses that followed. He knew he'd hit a nerve. The guy was jealous.
His phone rang again. A glance at the screen showed it was Thad. Jamison knew what it was about before he even answered. It seemed his mother was so happy she couldn't wait to spread the good news.
Meanwhile, on her way home, Ivy received a call from Davina. As a mother of three, Davina was a seasoned expert in all things pregnancy-related and had plenty of advice to offer. Ivy was a little embarrassed at first, but as Davina rattled off a long list of things to be aware of, she listened intently, taking mental notes of everything.
Although the baby in her belly was just a tiny "little bean," she could already feel the profound shift from woman to mother. After hanging up, she couldn't help but gently touch her stomach, silently whispering, *My darling, look how many people are excited for you to arrive. Mommy and Daddy can't wait to meet you...*

Ivy's thesis defense went smoothly.
