Ivy read the message and continued eating without a change in expression.

After dinner, Ivy had planned to stay for a little while before leaving, but the matriarch unexpectedly called her over.

Assuming she was about to face another challenge, Ivy mentally prepared herself. But instead, the butler brought over a box and handed it to the old woman.

"Sit down. Why are you standing? I'm not going to give you a hard time," Adela Ludwig said, glancing at her younger daughter-in-law and nodding toward the seat beside her.

When Davina saw the ornate box, she understood and gave Ivy a reassuring smile. Ivy suddenly realized what was happening as well.

Adela Ludwig opened the box, revealing a square jewelry case inside.

"This set of emeralds has been in the family for a long time. It's an heirloom. When Davina married into the family, I gave her a set. This one has been kept aside, waiting for Jamison's wife, but then…"

The old woman trailed off, but Ivy understood what she meant. The family heirlooms were meant for both daughters-in-law. She just hadn't expected her youngest son to suddenly elope with a woman they disapproved of. Since they hadn't accepted her, the heirloom had naturally been withheld.

But now that she was pregnant, she had finally, grudgingly, earned the matriarch's approval, and so the heirloom was being presented. She was gaining status because of her child.

The old woman paused for a moment before continuing, "This set is for you. Wear it if you like, or just keep it as a collector's item. Whenever you need to make an impression, this set will dazzle everyone."

Ivy scoffed inwardly but maintained a respectful expression. "That's not necessary. I don't really wear jewelry. You should keep it."
