They were at the right age, and neither of them was getting any younger.
Once they tied the knot, starting a family was a given. Plus, if she got pregnant quickly, it would bring immense joy to his future mother-in-law and let him score a point against his best friend. To Naylor, it was the perfect strategy to kill three birds with one stone.
Katrina remained skeptical, but before she could interrogate him further, Naylor effectively hijacked her thoughts.
They hadn't formally been together for months, which meant a brutal drought of any real intimacy. Naylor had been carrying a torch for her the whole time, brushing off the beautiful women who constantly threw themselves at him.
After months of agonizing celibacy, he was a man starved. Now that he had successfully secured his bride, it didn't take a genius to figure out what was on his mind.
As Naylor hauled her back into his arms and captured her lips, Katrina instantly knew his endgame.
She wanted him too, but her natural reservations made the sudden transition jarring.
Was this the only reason they got back together? That made them no better than animals operating on base instinct.
"Naylor, you... wait, stop." She managed to pry the words out between his relentless, heated kisses. "We haven't finished talking, you—"
"We've talked enough. You love me, I love you, we're back together, and we're getting married ASAP." Naylor chased her lips, a thoroughly spoiled smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "What else is there to worry about? Do you need me to sign a contract right now?"
Katrina was rendered utterly speechless.
Even now, her head was spinning. Everything was moving at breakneck speed, blurring the lines of reality so intensely she half-expected to wake up from a dream.
Taking advantage of her momentary distraction, Naylor swept her off her feet, carrying her toward the bedroom with predatory urgency.
"Naylor, you... you—" Katrina was torn, instinctually clinging to his neck while simultaneously wanting to bolt. "Why are you rushing? I don't want to tonight..."
Without waiting for a response, he dipped his handsome face down to kiss her again.
"Hold on!" Katrina blocked him once more, her eyes narrowed in deep suspicion. "You actually lasted this long?"
"It's not about lasting. I have a bottom line. We never truly severed ties, so how could I move on to someone else?"
It was a matter of respect—for her, and for any hypothetical new woman. He never denied his colorful past, but he was fiercely loyal in a relationship. He didn't cheat, and he didn't overlap.
"Besides, you're the woman I love, and you're the only one I want in my bed!" Knowing his romantic resume didn't inspire much trust, Naylor opted for blunt honesty.
Katrina's face flushed a deep crimson. She glared at him, fighting a smile, clearly still weighing his words.
"If you don't believe me, hire an investigator. You lawyers love digging up dirt, right? If you find a shred of proof that I betrayed you, you can have my head. Deal?"
