Hearing this, Jamison's gaunt, striking features tightened with a deep wave of heartache and guilt.
He knew better than anyone the sheer exhaustion his beloved Ivy had been enduring.
It wasn't just physical exhaustion; it was an overwhelming mental and emotional toll.
Especially over the last two days, when Boyd's successful match had offered a glimmer of hope only to cruelly snatch it away. It had to have devastated her.
Yet, here in the hospital, she insisted on putting on a brave face in front of him.
It was good to let her stay home a little longer to process her emotions, so she wouldn't work herself into a collapse.
Noticing his brother's somber expression, Thad pressed on. "Seeing how Ivy refuses to leave your side, haven't you made any plans?"
Jamison looked up, his gaze turning thoughtful. "What do you mean? Plans for what?"
"Don't blame me for being blunt," Thad said. "Your condition... isn't going to be cured overnight. Shouldn't you be planning for the future of your wife and kids? Especially now that Ivy has quit her job to be with you full-time. She doesn't have an income anymore."
Jamison froze, the realization hitting him a second later.
He really did need to arrange his affairs in advance. Although he knew his family wasn't greedy and would always take care of his wife and children even if he were gone, from his wife's perspective, she desperately needed a solid safety net.
"I mentioned transferring all my assets to her before, but she refused to accept them," Jamison said, sounding conflicted.
"Things were different then," Thad replied. "You were perfectly healthy, and she had her own career. Of course she wouldn't take it. Even though she might still refuse now, you need to show your sincerity and give her a sense of security."
Jamison nodded. "You're right. I overlooked that."
"Davina actually brought it up, which is what made me think of it. You two could sign a postnuptial agreement and get it notarized. Don't think it's unnecessary. Given Ivy's situation, if anything happens, she'll have nothing to fall back on. This is all you can really give her and the boys. If you do recover, then everyone is happy, and since you two have a great marriage, it won't matter whose name the money is in."
Jamison agreed without hesitation. "Alright. I'll have Boyd come over tomorrow to organize my assets, and then I'll get a lawyer to draft the agreement."
Having made his decision, Jamison looked at Thad with a hint of suspicion.
Thad met his gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Jamison frowned. "Did you make a special trip here just to remind me of this?"
"Who said this was a special trip? I told you I was just passing by on my way home," Thad replied, knowing his brother was too sharp to fool easily.
