But these days, everyone believed in free love and modern dating; that old tradition had completely faded out.
Katrina was dead serious as she replied, "Absolutely! I'm definitely not having any more kids anyway. Naylor thinks one is more than enough too. He was originally against marriage altogether, so tying the knot was already breaking his own rules. He has zero obsession with having more kids."
A few years ago, Naylor had joked about having more kids than Jamison and Ivy.
Now, it was just a punchline.
Katrina had one child, and he was completely traumatized.
The moment their daughter was born, Naylor publicly declared they were done. One girl was all he needed.
Everyone's constitution was different. For some, pregnancy and childbirth were a breeze. For others, it was nine months of pure terror, followed by a trip straight to hell and back in the delivery room.
Unfortunately, Katrina fell into the latter category.
Having this baby had truly put her through the wringer, completely obliterating any desire she had to ever go through pregnancy again.
After making her point, Katrina curiously asked her best friend, "You two are done too?"
Ivy smiled and shook her head. "Even if I wanted to, he'd never agree. He worries too much about my health."
"That's for sure!" Katrina's expression turned serious as she looked at her best friend with concern. "You already had your spleen removed because of what Emma did, and now you gave up half your liver to save Jamison. Sure, the liver regenerates, but I've done my research—it never grows back to its full original size. You have two sons anyway; there's no need to take another risk. Just leave it at this."
Ivy nodded, entirely in agreement.
She had joked with Jamison a few times before about having a daughter once he fully recovered.
But after seeing him absolutely devastated by the illness, she couldn't bear the thought of letting him suffer through anything else.
If he fully recovered, he deserved to kick back and live out the rest of his life in absolute peace. He didn't have the stamina to raise another child from scratch.
Later that evening, Naylor finished up his work and stopped by. He checked in on Jamison and Ivy while preparing to take his wife and daughter home.
Hearing that his best buddy was still stuck in the ICU with an uncertain prognosis, Naylor's mood noticeably dropped.
"Jamison is too damn proud. Lying helplessly in the ICU like that... it must be driving him absolutely crazy. My parents ask about him every single day; they're really worried too."
"Yeah, Dr. Wilson and Professor Penn came to visit a couple of days ago and had a long talk with Director Wylde," Ivy said calmly, unable to suppress a sigh. "With so many people pulling for him, he has to get better."
Katrina squeezed Ivy's arm tightly to comfort her. "He definitely will. Jamison refuses to leave you and the boys behind."
"I hope so..."
The moment Naylor set eyes on his precious daughter, his face practically crumpled into a massive grin.
