**Chapter 203: The New Alpha King**
[Evelyn’s POV]
Oh my God. What if they reject Alexander as their new King?
The thought spiraled through my mind like a whirlwind. I couldn’t fathom a single reason why anyone would oppose him as their Alpha, yet the fear of their hesitation gnawed at me. It wasn’t enough to simply recognize his worth; they needed to pledge their loyalty, to embrace him as their leader.
Alexander was counting on their support, and I was determined to do whatever it took to rally them behind him.
“May I say something?”
The words spilled from my lips before I had a moment to consider their weight. My voice sliced through the oppressive silence that enveloped the room, startling everyone into attention.
My heart raced, pounding against my ribcage as every pair of eyes turned to focus on me. The judge offered a brief nod, and I felt the intensity of their stares bearing down on me. I cleared my throat, the sound echoing in the stillness, and stepped forward, gathering my courage.
“For those of you unfamiliar with me, my name is Evelyn Kingston, and I am Alexander’s wife and Luna.”
From the front row, a familiar face lit up, breaking the tension with an unexpected enthusiasm.
“Aren’t you the Luna who has been making those incredible tea blends?”
Heat flooded my cheeks at the sudden attention. “Oh, y-yes.”
Another voice chimed in, filled with excitement. “Oh my God, they’re fantastic! This winter is the first in ages that my family hasn’t caught a single cold!”
I couldn’t suppress a giggle, warmth spreading through me at the recognition of my work. But this moment was not about me; it was about Alexander.
“I’m truly glad to hear that,” I began, striving to maintain focus. “However, the reason I felt compelled to speak is that I sense a significant amount of doubt and apprehension swirling in this room right now.” I paused, letting my gaze sweep over the crowd. “I understand, and I empathize with many of your concerns regarding this transition—especially your fears about being governed by Alexander.”
I caught sight of several faces nodding, uncertainty etched in their features.
“Now, I completely get it. Some of you might dismiss my perspective as biased since I am, after all, his wife. And while I take immense pride in standing beside him, I assure you, it wasn’t always this way. Our marriage was arranged; we were practically strangers. I had no inkling of the man he truly was, and for quite some time after our wedding, we barely exchanged words. I came to know Alexander not through conversation, but through his actions.”
I glanced at him, our eyes locking for a moment. In his gaze, I saw a flicker of pride that filled me with warmth.
“I was genuinely astonished to witness the loyalty and respect his pack members held for him. This was no mere coincidence; it stemmed from the way he genuinely cares for each and every one of them, embodying the qualities of a true Alpha. A true King.”
A hint of bitterness crept into my voice as I turned my attention to Gregory, who sat stiffly in the corner.
“Alexander is not a man who seeks wealth for wealth’s sake. He knows that true riches come from dedication and hard work. He intends to root out the corruption that has festered unnoticed for far too long. He won’t simply step into the previous King’s shoes and continue the same old practices. No.”
I moved closer to Alexander, standing firmly by his side.
“What Alexander envisions is a region free from crime, a place where peace reigns, built upon honesty and effort. You have every right to be skeptical, but why not give him—give us—a chance to prove ourselves?”
The judge cleared his throat, his voice steady. “That was beautifully articulated, Mrs. Kingston. As you all know, I am a man of the people, dedicated to safeguarding the best interests of this region. It weighs heavily on my heart to realize that I have been complicit in allowing such criminality to persist. As a man of justice, I hereby pledge my allegiance to our new Alpha King, Alexander Kingston.”
