The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

[Evelyn’s Perspective]

It took me a few moments to fully grasp the weight of Alexander’s request. Was he really asking me to meet his soldiers? Did he genuinely mean it?

Under ordinary circumstances—much less in a situation as complicated as ours—it was customary for Alphas and their Lunas to attend the military review. This event was a key opportunity for an Alpha to address their pack, especially the soldiers, highlighting both their strengths and weaknesses.

It was also a critical moment to discuss upcoming missions and future strategies. More than that, it served as a platform to offer support where it was needed most and to address any concerns that might be lingering.

In every sense, having a Luna present for these reviews was standard protocol, a tradition woven into pack life. But the dynamic between Alexander and me was anything but typical.

That was precisely why I was so taken aback.

This was a monumental gesture. Alexander trusted me enough to include me in this intimate and important part of his world. The significance of that trust was not lost on me—it was enormous.

But it went beyond trust. This was a clear acknowledgment of my role as his Luna.

I blinked rapidly, fighting back the surge of emotion threatening to spill from my eyes, then nodded silently.

Alexander’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. “Good. Let’s get going.”

I won’t lie—I was nervous.

Talking to a handful of guards was one thing. But standing before hundreds of armed soldiers was an entirely different challenge.

Still, it quickly became apparent that the curiosity was mutual. From the moment Alexander and I stepped onto the vast open field, I felt countless pairs of eyes drifting over me, measuring and wondering.

“Who’s that?” one soldier whispered.

“No idea,” another replied.

“Someone near the base camp said she was seen walking with one of the doctors.”

The mention of Fiona made my blood boil. I still struggled to comprehend just how dangerous she was, how recklessly she had tried to put me in harm’s way.

I never considered myself vindictive or spiteful. Growing up with a stepsister like Samantha, I had learned early on to let go of much of my anger. But Fiona was different. Samantha’s barbs felt childish and immature, easily dismissed.

Fiona, however, seemed intent on getting me expelled from the pack—or worse, killed.

Her jealousy ran far deeper than anyone realized. It made me wonder—was Alexander fully aware of just how perilous she truly was?

Perhaps that was part of why he acted the way he did.

Either way, I was grateful our paths weren’t destined to cross anytime soon. It would give me space to focus on my duties as Luna without the constant fear of sabotage.

For now, I pushed those unsettling thoughts aside. There were far more pressing matters at hand. Hundreds of soldiers continued to stare, their gazes heavy and questioning.

My cheeks flushed under their scrutiny. Despite my title, I wasn’t accustomed to this kind of attention—even if it was only a form of acknowledgment.
