The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Ever since I had impulsively kissed Alexander, his gaze had been locked on me, filled with a mixture of emotions I couldn’t quite decipher. It was as if he was trying to process something far deeper than just the moment we shared.

Though the priest had solemnly pronounced us husband and wife, affirming Alexander’s right to claim his Luna with kisses and embraces, Alexander himself remained strangely still and unreadable. His lack of reaction unsettled me more than I expected. There was a cold distance in his eyes that made my heart flutter uneasily.

Sensing the heavy atmosphere hanging between us, the housekeeper Nina stepped forward, breaking the silence with her practical announcement. “Because of Alexander’s condition, there will be no dancing or banquet after the ceremony,” she said quietly but firmly.

I glanced at my family, catching their exchanged looks. None of them seemed particularly upset by the news—if anything, they appeared relieved. I suspected they were still reeling from Samantha’s earlier outburst and eager to leave as soon as possible.

Sure enough, the moment the priest stepped down from the altar, my relatives moved swiftly toward the exit, their faces tight and tense.

I leaned toward Alexander and whispered, “I’ll see my parents off.”

Liam and Samantha climbed into the backseat of the waiting limousine without a word, while my father paused just long enough to shoot me a sharp, warning glare.

“I’m far more cautious about Alexander than I initially thought,” he said in a low, serious tone. “Evelyn, mark my words: for the sake of this marriage—and for your brother’s safety—you must never provoke him.”

His words hung heavy in the air, a clear reminder that we were playing a dangerous game. If Alexander’s favor turned away, the reward money from the King could vanish, along with our security.

“If Alexander is displeased, not only will we lose the King’s support, but our entire pack could face destruction,” he continued gravely. “Remember, even though Alexander can’t stand now, his ability to command and lead his army remains unshaken. You must tread carefully. His family comes from a large and powerful pack.”

Most fathers would offer gentle advice to their daughters about how to be treated by their husbands, but my father’s farewell was laced with cold caution that pierced my heart. Still, I shouldn’t have expected anything different. It was a harsh reality, but one I had to accept.

I forced the disappointment from my voice and replied quietly, “Fine. Just don’t forget to take care of my brother.”
