The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 62

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 62: Worries And Birthday Talk**

In a moment of reluctant surrender, Alexander finally allowed Evelyn to rise from the warmth of the bed. Despite his instinct urging her to remain nestled under the covers, he understood that resisting her would only lead to an unnecessary argument. They had been making strides in their relationship, slowly shedding the barriers that had kept them apart, and he didn’t want to jeopardize that newfound comfort.

He observed her as she carefully swung her legs over the side of the bed, her movements a bit unsteady. It was completely understandable; after days of confinement to the sheets, her body was readjusting to the world outside.

About thirty minutes later, he caught sight of her stepping out of the bathroom, a fluffy white towel wrapped snugly around her. His gaze lingered, captivated by her natural beauty. It was a sight he had seen before, but this time felt different. The memory of their previous encounter in the bathtub flashed through his mind, a chaotic moment when panic had overshadowed any chance to appreciate her form. Now, with the threat to her health behind them, he relished the opportunity to simply admire her.

“Hey,” she greeted him softly, her voice a gentle whisper that cut through the quiet of the room.

“Hmm?” he responded, momentarily distracted by the way the towel hugged her figure.

“I meant to ask earlier, but… is there a reason I was brought back to your room when I wasn’t feeling well?” Evelyn inquired, her brow slightly furrowed in curiosity.

A blush crept up Alexander’s cheeks as he wrestled with his thoughts. Did he really want to dive into a discussion about his aversion to sleeping apart? Would he admit that his sleep schedule had been completely thrown off by his own issues? Probably not.

He was already grappling with the realization that he had been sleeping surprisingly well since she had come into his life. Yes, they were growing closer, but he wasn’t quite ready to lay bare all the complexities of his feelings.

“I had the staff move you in here because I thought it would be easier to monitor your condition,” he replied, keeping his tone casual.

“Oh.” She lowered her gaze, her expression shifting to one of contemplation.

Alexander felt a flicker of concern at the somber note in her voice. Was she disappointed with his answer? Did she yearn for a different explanation? A part of him wondered if she had hoped for something more romantic, something that would reflect the budding connection between them.

“Well, in that case, I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that your evenings won’t be interrupted from now on,” she remarked lightly, attempting to lighten the mood.

He bit down on the inside of his cheek, mulling over her words. “You know, it wouldn’t be such a big deal if you decided to stay here,” he muttered, half-hoping he hadn’t crossed a line.

Evelyn’s eyes widened in surprise, and he felt a rush of panic. Had he said the wrong thing again?

He watched as a faint blush crept across her cheeks, ignited by his gaze. Clearing her throat, she managed a small smile. “I’m going to get dressed and then I’ll meet you back here so we can head to the dining room,” she announced, her tone brightening.

A wave of relief washed over him at her response, and he nodded in agreement. As she turned to return to her room for some clothes, his hands itched with the urge to hold her again. From what he could gather, she didn’t seem to mind his advances, and that thought filled him with hope.

With a sense of urgency, he swung his legs over the side of the bed and made his way to the bathroom. He needed to address the overwhelming desire that had been building since she had entered his life.

Perhaps, just perhaps, things wouldn’t be so awkward between them after all.

Breakfast unfolded in a serene manner until the sudden arrival of Nina and Wendy shattered the tranquility. The two women burst into the dining room, their excitement palpable as they rushed to check on Evelyn’s recovery.

“You look so much better, my dear,” Wendy exclaimed, her smile warm and genuine.

“I feel better,” Evelyn replied, her voice tinged with honesty. “To be honest, I’m still trying to process everything that happened while the Belladonna was in my system. I feel like I’m missing pieces of my memory.”
