Chapter 211
Chapter 211
“Do you think he’ll take that bait?” Bryan asked, glancing at Simon.
“I don’t know,” Simon replied honestly. “That case might excite him… or it might not interest him at all.”
Lila’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Then we prepare anyway,” she said firmly. “Daven already knows we’re challenging him.”
“Alright,” Simon nodded.
Then he turned toward Bryan.
“Mr. Secretary,” Simon said with a faint smirk, “do the honor.”
Bryan frowned immediately.
He didn’t like being called that too formal, too sharp, too much pressure wrapped in respect.
Still, he didn’t argue.
Working with Damon for the long run really sharpened your instincts and judgment.
“We’ll arrange it.”Bryan said after a pause.
Simon gave a light nod, satisfied.
“Good.”
He straightened up and adjusted his jacket.
“Then let me go see my best friend before I head back to Belair,” he said casually.
And with that, he walked out of the room.
The door clicked shut behind him.
Silence settled in.
Lila remained seated, watching the door Simon had just walked through.
Her expression softened slightly-not in weakness, but in thought.
She understood something in that moment.
Simon didn’t just follow plans.
He observed them.
And when things shifted-when Bryan or anyone else made a move-Simon didn’t resist it.
He adjusted it.
Refined it.
Redirected it.
Quietly.
Efficiently.
Lila’s gaze lowered slightly.
A realization formed in her mind.
Simon relied on Bryan’s instincts…
but also refined Bryan’s decisions when necessary.
A balance.
A system.
A team built on trust-but sharpened by correction.
Her thoughts drifted further.

Chapter 211
Damon really did have the best people standing behind him.
Bryan-precise, loyal, strategic.
Simon-sharp, adaptable, quietly calculating.
Even when Damon himself was down…
his foundation didn’t break.
It held.
Lila exhaled slowly.
“He never built weak,” she murmured under her breath.
And for a brief moment-
even she understood why Damon survived as long as he did.
It wasn’t just power.
It was the people who refused to let him fall.
“It’s been days since the doctor came here,” Lila said quietly, her eyes still scanning the document in front of her.
She didn’t look up.
Didn’t pause.
But the weight of her words lingered in the room.
Bryan slowly lifted his head, his gaze shifting toward her.
Something about the way she said it-
Calm.
Too calm.
Made something click.
A realization settled in.
The doctor wasn’t coming back.
Bryan straightened slightly. “I’ll call him,” he said.
Lila didn’t respond.
Not even a glance.
The silence was answer enough.
Bryan stepped aside, already dialing.
The line rang.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Then-
Nothing.
No answer.
His jaw tightened.
He tried again.
Still nothing.

Bryan lowered the phone slowly, his expression darkening.
“He’s not picking up,” he said.
Lila finally stopped reading.
The page in her hand stilled.
“Call again,” she said.
Bryan did.
This time-
The call didn’t even go through.
He looked at the screen.
Then back at her.
“It’s off.”
A pause.
The air shifted.
Lila gently closed the file in front of her.
Now she looked up.
Her eyes were no longer calm.
They were sharp.
Calculating.
“Either he ran,” she said slowly, “or he’s been taken.”
Bryan frowned. “If he ran, he would’ve covered his tracks better.”
“Exactly.”
Silence stretched between them.
Both thinking the same thing.
If the doctor was taken-
Then someone was already moving faster than them.
Lila stood.
“Track his last location,” she ordered.
Bryan nodded immediately, already moving.
“And Bryan-” she added.
He stopped.
“If this is Daven…”
Her voice dropped.
“…then we’re already behind.”
Bryan didn’t respond.
Because he knew-
She was right.
The doctor sat at the edge of the dock, a fishing rod in his hands, his posture relaxed-but his eyes were anything but.
They moved constantly.

Chapter 211
Scanning.
Measuring.
i
Waiting.
His contact was late.
Too late.
Beside him, Rose sat quietly, her hands clenched in her lap. Every now and then, her gaze flicked toward the parking area not far from them.
Empty.
For now.
Maddy lay slumped beside her, wrapped in a jacket, a boonie hat pulled low to shadow her face. To anyone passing by, she looked like a tired girl catching sleep in the early morning air.
-But the doctor knew better.
Time was running out.
They had arrived at dawn-just early enough to blend in. A man fishing at this hour wasn’t unusual.
But once the sun fully rose-
Everything would change.
If his calculations were right, whoever was chasing Maddy would already be setting up exits across Wago City.
Checkpoints.
Eyes.
Traps.
And once that net tightened-
There would be no slipping through.
The doctor’s grip on the rod tightened slightly.
Then-
A small boat approached the dock.
His eyes locked onto it instantly.
This was it.
He stood up without hesitation, grabbing the pail beside him-five small fish sloshing inside.
His gaze flicked to Maddy.
Still unconscious.
Good.
He bent down and lifted her carefully into his arms, carrying her in a bridal hold. Her head rested limply against his shoulder, the hat shielding her face,
Rose stood quickly, falling into step beside him.
As they moved toward the boat, a man nearby glanced at them.
The doctor caught it-and acted instantly.
“This kid,” he said with a tired chuckle, adjusting Maddy slightly. “Knows how to dodge responsibility. Didn’t want to help me fish, so she pretended to be sick.”
He winked casually.
The man laughed.
“Kids these days,” he replied. “All they want is to stay at home and do nothing.”

Chapter 211
Rose kept her head down, playing her part.
“How is she?” the man asked, squinting at Maddy. “Maybe just sell her,” he joked.
The doctor snorted.
“This brat keeps running away,” he said. “Figured I’d teach her how to fish so she doesn’t starve.”
The men laughed together.
To them, it was nothing.
Just another struggling father.
Another spoiled kid.
Another ordinary morning in Wago.
They didn’t see the tension in the doctor’s shoulders.
They didn’t notice the way Rose’s fingers trembled slightly at her side.
They didn’t realize-
They were watching people on the edge of escape.
The doctor stepped onto the boat.
No turning back now.
He adjusted his grip on Maddy, his voice dropping just enough for Rose to hear.
“Once we leave the dock,” he murmured, “we don’t stop for anything.”
Rose nodded faintly.
Behind them-
The sun began to rise.
And somewhere in the city-
The hunt had already begun.
