Chapter 254
Chapter 254
Maddy could no longer wait.
Patience had never been her strength-but now, it felt like a slow, unbearable torture.
Every night, the distance between her and Damon stretched wider, colder, more suffocating. She lay awake in her room, staring at the ceiling, listening to the faint sounds of the house settling, to the distant rhythm of the sea… and to the silence coming from behind his door.
A silence that should not exist between husband and wife.
It ate at her.
It clawed at her chest, tightening with every passing hour until the need to be near him-to feel him, to claim him-became almost unbearable.
So that night, she stopped waiting.
Damon had just turned toward his door when he felt it.
Arms.
Soft, trembling, desperate.
Wrapped tightly around him from behind.
“Maddy…” he said quietly, his voice low, controlled.
But she didn’t let go.
Instead, she pressed herself closer, her cheek resting against his back as though she could anchor herself there.
“Damon,” she whispered, her voice breaking, “we are husband and wife… why won’t you sleep beside me?”
Tears slid slowly down her cheeks, dampening the fabric of his shirt.
Her grip tightened.
“I miss you,” she added, barely audible.
Damon stood still.
For a moment, he didn’t move at all.
His expression hardened-not in cruelty, but in conflict. Something inside him resisted, something he couldn’t fully explain, couldn’t fully understand… but couldn’t ignore either.
Slowly, he turned to face her.
Her tear-streaked face met his.
Searching.
Pleading.
Expecting.
“I just…” he began, then paused.
His jaw tightened slightly.
“I just can’t. Not for now.”
The words fell heavier than he intended.
Maddy’s lips parted, as if to speak-but nothing came out.
“Can you give me a little time?” Damon continued, his voice quieter now, almost strained.
But he didn’t reach for her.

Didn’t help her stand properly.
Didn’t wipe her tears.
He just… stood there.
Distant.
Before the silence could stretch any further, footsteps approached.
Rose.
She stepped in smoothly, her presence calm but firm..
“Miss Maddy,” she said gently, moving to support her, “Mr. Damon has not yet fully recovered his memory. Let’ s not rush him, okay?”
Her tone was soothing, but her eyes flickered briefly toward Damon-sharp, calculating.
Then she turned back to Maddy.
“Come,” she murmured, guiding her away. “You need to rest.”
Damon said nothing.
He simply stepped back into his room.
Closed the door.
And the soft click of the lock echoed louder than any storm.
Maddy froze.
That sound…
It shattered something inside her.
“Why…” she whispered, her voice hollow.
Her knees weakened slightly, but Rose held her steady.
“Let’s not rush him, Miss Maddy,” Rose repeated calmly. “Because if we do… that’s when he starts asking questions,”
Her grip tightened just slightly.
“And we do not want that to happen. Right?”
Maddy didn’t answer.
She let Rose guide her back to her room, her steps slow, unsteady.
“Rest,” Rose said softly before leaving..
And then Maddy was alone.
Midnight came quietly.
The house was still.
Too still.
Damon stood in front of the medicine cabinet, unmoving.
The faint light from the hallway cast shadows across his face, sharpening his features into something colder … something unreadable.
His eyes were fixed.
Not tired.

Not confused.
Icy.
Deliberate.
One by one, his gaze traced the bottles, the labels, the careful arrangement Rose maintained so precisely.
His hand lifted slightly-
Then stopped.
A sound.
Soft.
A door opening somewhere behind him.
Damon stepped back.
Silent.
By the time the hallway light flickered on-
He was gone.
Rose stepped out of her room, her heart already racing.
She had seen something.
A shadow.
A movement.
She was sure of it.
Her eyes scanned the house quickly, her breathing shallow.
Nothing.
Everything was still.
Too still.
Slowly, she moved toward Damon’s room.
Her hand hovered near the door.
Locked.
She frowned.
Was she imagining things?
Shaking her head slightly, she turned and walked downstairs.
To the cabinet.
To the medicine.
Her fingers moved quickly, checking each bottle, each placement, each detail.
Everything was… exactly as she left it.
Not a single thing out of place.
Rose exhaled slowly.
“Maybe…” she murmured to herself, “I’m just tired.”
But something in her chest refused to settle.
Morning arrived too quickly.
Sunlight filled the house once more, washing away the shadows-but not the tension.

Damon stepped into the kitchen-
And stopped.
Maddy was there.
Cooking.
For a moment, he just stared.
“Where is Rose?” he asked.
Maddy turned, smiling warmly as if nothing had happened the night before.
“Sit,” she said gently. “Have breakfast.”
Before he could respond, she slipped her arm through his and guided him to the table.
Her touch lingered.
Possessive.
“Eat this,” she added, already filling his plate.
Damon sat.
But he didn’t move.
“Rose was picking up supplements,” Maddy said casually, her back turned as she moved around the kitchen.
Damon nodded slightly.
Then began to eat.
Moments later, Maddy returned with a glass of juice.
“Here,” she said sweetly, placing it in front of him.
Damon took it.
But didn’t drink.
Instead, he set it back down on the table.
And stared at it.
Silently.
Maddy’s heart began to pound.
Did he… notice?
Did he smell it?
Her fingers curled slightly at her sides.
“I want water,” Damon said suddenly, standing.
“No-let me get it for you,” Maddy said quickly.
“No,” Damon replied calmly. “You should stay.”
And just like that, he was already in the kitchen.
Maddy remained still.
Watching.
Waiting.
He returned moments later, holding a glass of water.
He handed it to her.
She took it.
Said nothing.

And waited.
The silence stretched.
Heavy.
Unspoken.
Until-
A knock.
Maddy flinched slightly.
“I’ll get it,” she said, moving quickly toward the door.
Damon didn’t stop her.
He watched her leave.
Watched her disappear.
Then slowly…
His gaze dropped back to the glass of juice.
A faint smile touched his lips.
When Maddy returned, she carried a basket of fruit.
“Our neighbor gave this,” she said brightly. “It’s fresh. They said they’ll be moving to the city soon-their children want them there after the typhoon.”
She moved closer, peeling an apple with careful precision.
“Here,” she said, handing him a slice. “It’s good for your health.”
Damon took it.
Ate it.
His expression unreadable.
Then Maddy lifted the glass of juice again.
“This too,” she said softly.
This time-
Damon didn’t refuse.
He drank it.
Under her watchful gaze.
Maddy smiled.
And then… she drank her own.
Still looking at him.
Still searching for something.
“I’ll go outside,” Damon said, standing.
“Okay,” Maddy replied, already gathering the dishes.
She watched him walk away.
Certain.
Certain that this time-

Everything would finally fall into place.
But minutes later-
Something felt wrong.
Heat.
Sudden.
Intense.
It spread through her body like fire, coiling, tightening, clouding her thoughts.
Her breath hitched.
Her vision blurred slightly.
“Wait….” she whispered.
Her eyes darted toward the door.
Outside-
Damon was already far from the shore.
Sitting in a small canoe.
Fishing rod in hand.
Calm.
Distant.
Untouched.
Maddy’s heart dropped.
Did I…
Her mind raced.
Did I make a mistake?
But the heat-
It kept rising.
Consuming.
Overwhelming.
She stumbled forward, her legs unsteady as she tried to move.
The ground tilted beneath her.
“I…” she gasped softly.
Her vision darkened at the edges.
She barely made it to the doorway before her body gave in-
Falling-
But not hitting the ground.
Strong arms caught her.
Cold.
Firm.
Unfamiliar.
Maddy looked up-
But the face above her was blurred.

Unclear..
Unreachable.
Yet in that moment-
None of it mattered.
Because the heat inside her demanded something.
Something urgent.
Something consuming.
And whoever held her-
Was enough.
When Maddy woke-
It was night.
Her head throbbed.
Her body ached.
Slowly, she sat up.
And froze.
She was naked.
Her breath caught.
Memories flickered-
Fragments.
Touch.
Heat.
Arms.
But no face.
“Damon…” she whispered.
It had to be him.
It had to be.
Quickly, she stood, gathering herself, dressing, steadying her breath.
Then she walked downstairs.
Damon was in the kitchen.
Cooking.
Calm.
Composed.
As if nothing had happened.
“You’re awake,” he said, glancing at her briefly. “Come. Let’s have dinner.”
Maddy stared at him.
Her heart raced again-but for a different reason now.
It was him.
It had to be him.

Relief washed over her.
Possession.
Certainty.
A small smile formed on her lips.
Yes.
She thought.
It was him.
But Damon didn’t look at her again.
And the faintest hint of something unreadable flickered in his eyes-
Gone before it could be understood.
