Morning sunlight filled the villa, streaming through the tall windows and casting warm light across the quiet living room.

Lila stood by the hallway, her eyes fixed on the closed door of the study.

Damon had stayed there the entire night.

She hadn’t heard the door open once.

When the housekeeper walked past, Lila stopped her. “Has Damon already left?”

The housekeeper shook her head politely. “No, Mrs. Lila. Mr. Damon is still in the study.”

Lila nodded faintly and looked back at the door.

So he was still there.

Just then, the front door opened.

“Good morning, Mrs. Lila.”

Bryan, Damon’s assistant, stepped inside and greeted her with a slight bow. A stack of documents rested neatly in his hands.

“You’re here early,” Lila said.

“Mr. Damon asked me to bring these documents for him to review,” Bryan replied.

Lila watched as Bryan walked straight toward the study and knocked lightly before entering.

A moment later, another man arrived.

Simon.

He walked in casually, clearly familiar with the place.

Lila glanced at him. “It seems Damon’s okay now, since he asked you to come here and bring his documents.”

Simon frowned slightly, confusion written on his face. “What?”

“I mean last night,” Lila said flatly. “He had a high fever.”

Simon blinked, surprised.

“A fever?”

Lila nodded once.

12:57 Mon, May 4 M…

“Does he always work like that?” she asked calmly. “Even when he has a high fever?”

Simon smiled faintly.

Damon, is this your new trick to get your wife’s attention? he thought to himself.

“Yes,” Simon said aloud with a casual shrug. “He’s a workaholic.”

He glanced at Lila, a playful grin tugging at the corner of his lips.

“I guess you should know that. You once worked at the accounting department of Blackthorne Industries before.”

Lila simply nodded.

Her expression remained calm, unreadable.

Simon didn’t linger outside any longer. He pushed the study door open and stepped inside.

Damon sat behind his desk, completely buried under a mountain of documents. Files were stacked high across the table, some already opened, others waiting for his signature.

Simon leaned casually against the desk.

“I heard your wife took care of you last night,” he said teasingly.

Damon didn’t even look up.

He simply flipped a page and continued reading.

Before Simon could say anything else-

The study door burst open.

“Damon!”

Maddy rushed inside, holding a container of porridge and a small bottle of medicine.

“I heard you’re sick,” she said breathlessly. “So I brought you something to eat.”

Damon finally looked up.

“You shouldn’t have bothered, Maddy,” he said.

“No,” she replied quickly, already walking toward him. “Come here. You should be resting.”

Before Damon could protest, Maddy grabbed his arm and gently pulled him away from the desk.

Simon raised his brows, clearly entertained.

Maddy led Damon to the couch and pushed him down to sit.

“Eat first,” she insisted, opening the container of porridge.

Damon sighed quietly.

For a moment he resisted… but eventually he gave up. He took the spoon from her hand and began eating.

Outside the room, the study door remained slightly ajar.

Lila stood silently in the hallway.

From where she stood, she could see everything.

Maddy sitting close beside Damon. Carefully watching him. Passing him the medicine. Making sure he ate properly.

And Damon…

Damon was eating the porridge Maddy brought.

Unlike last night.

Last night, he had refused hers.

Lila’s gaze lingered for a moment longer.

Then why refuse the divorce… she thought quietly, if he truly can’t stand me?

Without making a sound, she turned away.

Lila walked back toward the master bedroom.

The room was quiet when she entered.

She went straight to the table and picked up the divorce papers again.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the documents.

Maybe…

Maybe he would sign them now.

After all, Maddy was here.

A few minutes later, Lila returned to the study.

She pushed the door open.

Inside, Damon sat on the couch while Maddy remained right beside him, carefully assisting him like he was someone precious.

Damon was still eating the porridge Maddy had brought.

Happily.

Damon looked up.

:

Lila was standing in the doorway, a set of documents clutched in her hands.

For a brief moment, their eyes met.

Damon leaned back slightly against the couch, watching her with quiet amusement.

What play are you putting on today, Lila? he thought.

Lila walked slowly into the study.

Her steps were steady, but her fingers tightened around the papers as she approached them. Maddy was still seated beside Damon, watching the interaction curiously.

When Lila stopped in front of him, she held out the documents.

“Damon, sign this.”

Damon glanced down.

The divorce agreement.

Then he looked back up at her.

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

Here we go again, he thought.

“Give it to Simon for review,” Damon said casually.

Lila blinked once.

Then realization flashed across her face.

He wanted Simon to review it.

That meant he was going to sign it.

She was right.

For the first time in days, something that felt like relief spread through her chest.

“Okay,” she said softly.

Lila turned and walked straight to Simon, handing him the documents.

“Please review this.”

Simon took the papers, his brows furrowing slightly as he skimmed the first page.

Before leaving, Lila turned back toward Damon.

Her lips curved into a faint, polite smile.

“Thank you so much,” she said quietly. “And I wish you happiness.”

Then she left.

She walked straight down the hallway toward the master bedroom, holding herself together as best as she could.

But the moment she stepped inside the room and closed the door-

Her composure shattered.

Lila covered her mouth as the tears finally fell.

A broken sob escaped her chest.

“It’s okay… it’s okay…” she whispered to herself through the tears.

No more waiting.

No more hoping.

She sank slowly onto the edge of the bed, clutching the divorce papers she had been holding for so long.

“It’s going to be alright,” she murmured to herself again, though her voice trembled.

From now on…

She would no longer interfere with Damon and Maddy’s happiness.

Not anymore.
