The Wife He Never Meant to Love (Lila and Damon) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Lila called Simon again that afternoon.

“Simon, has Damon signed the divorce agreement yet?” she asked directly.

Simon rubbed his temple as he held the phone, glancing across Damon’s office.

Stacks of documents were scattered across Damon’s desk while Damon calmly reviewed another contract as if the conversation had nothing to do with him.

“We’re… still reviewing it,” Simon replied carefully.

After the call ended, Simon dropped the phone onto the table and sighed.

“Damon,” he said, looking at him seriously. “Lila has been asking about the divorce agreement every few days. I’m about to run out of excuses.”

Damon didn’t even look up from the document in his hand.

“If she asks again,” he said calmly, “tell her to ask me directly.”

Simon stared at him.

“Right,” he muttered under his breath.

Later that night, Damon joined several business associates for dinner. The meal was long, filled with business talk and expensive wine.

After dinner, they moved to Silvermoon Bar to relax.

The private lounge was lively, laughter echoing around the room.

What Damon didn’t expect was the “entertainment” they had arranged.

Two escorts entered the room.

One of them immediately walked over and excitedly sat beside Damon, her perfume strong and sweet. The other one leaned against the table nearby, watching him with interest.

Damon glanced at the woman beside him.

“My wife wouldn’t like it if I smelled different,” he said calmly.

“Oh my,” the escort laughed nervously, already preparing to stand.

But before she could-

The lounge door burst open.

Everyone froze.

Lila stood in the doorway.

Her expression was cold.

The escort beside Damon suddenly felt her body stiffen under Lila’s gaze.

“If you remain at his side,” Lila said calmly, “I will smash that pretty face.”

The threat was quiet.

But deadly serious.

The escort’s face turned pale. She scrambled to her feet and hurried to sit beside another man across the

room.

“Mrs. Blackthorne!” Mike suddenly stood up, sweat forming on his forehead.

“My apologies,” he said quickly. “It was not my intention to drag your husband here.”

Mike wiped his forehead nervously.

This was the first time he had ever seen the wife of a powerful man storm into a bar and chase after her husband personally.

And judging by the look in Lila’s eyes-

No one in the room dared laugh.

Lila stepped inside the lounge without hesitation.

She grabbed a glass of wine from the table, drank it in one smooth motion, then wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.

Her eyes returned to Damon.

“Go home,” she said simply.

Then she turned and walked out.

For a moment, the entire room stayed silent.

Damon slowly stood.

“Yes, ma’am,” he said calmly, a faint smile on his lips before excusing himself from the group.

The drive back to Forest Villa was anything but calm.

The moment the car pulled onto the quiet road, Damon grabbed Lila’s face and crashed his lips against hers.

The kiss was fierce, hungry.

Lila briefly thought about the poor driver in the front seat.

He must be traumatized by now, she thought.

But she didn’t stop.

Whatever Damon gave her, she returned with equal intensity.

By the time they reached Forest Villa, neither of them had the patience to wait.

They barely made it to the bedroom before continuing where they left off.

When everything finally settled, Lila fell asleep immediately, her body sore and exhausted.

The next morning, soft sunlight filtered through the curtains.

Lila woke up slowly.

Beside her, Damon was sleeping soundly.

She quietly slipped out of bed and took a quick shower.

While drying her hair, she suddenly laughed softly to herself.

What happened last night had been her revenge.

If Damon wouldn’t let her spend the night with another man…

Then she simply wouldn’t let him have anyone else either.

Fair.

When she finished, she returned to the bedroom.

Damon was still lying on the bed.

That’s when her eyes caught something.

The scars on his back.

They hadn’t fully healed yet.

Some of the wounds had reopened-likely from her nails scratching him the night before.

Chapter 78

Lila moved closer and gently touched the injury.

She frowned slightly.

The wounds were long.

Sharp.

Deep.

They didn’t look accidental.

They looked like they had been caused by a whip… or something similar.

Before she could think further-

Damon stirred awake.

His eyes opened slowly and landed on her.

He noticed where she was looking.

“I might have to show those to everyone,” Damon said lazily, his voice low and teasing. “So they know my lovely wife isn’t boring.”

Lila ignored the remark.

“What happened to your back?” she asked quietly.

Damon sat up.

“It’s nothing,” he replied casually.

Then he stood and walked straight to the bathroom to take a shower.

Leaving her question unanswered.

When Damon finished showering and stepped out of the bathroom, he paused.

Lila was still there.

She was sitting at the edge of the bed, a small box of medicine in her hand.

“Come here,” Lila said calmly. “Let me put some medicine on it.”

Damon raised an eyebrow slightly but didn’t argue.

If anything, he enjoyed these small moments she gave him.

He sat down on the bed, turning his back to her.

Lila carefully applied the medicine to the wounds. Her touch was gentle, far gentler than the scratches she had left the night before.

Neither of them spoke.

When she finished, Lila closed the medicine box and stood.

Without another word, she walked out of the room.

Downstairs, she went straight to the dining area and quietly ate her breakfast.

She knew she shouldn’t bother pretending to be a concerned wife.

Not when they were about to divorce.

A few minutes later, Damon joined her and sat across the table.

Lila looked up.

“What about the divorce agreement?” she asked directly.

Damon calmly poured himself a cup of coffee.

“Simon is busy,” he said flatly. “He doesn’t have time to review it yet.”

Lila frowned.

“What is there to review? There’s nothing complicated in that agreement,” she said. “I didn’t even ask for anything.”

Damon took a bite of his food before answering.

“It wouldn’t look good if I let my wife leave with nothing.”

He wiped his mouth with a napkin and stood.

Then he walked toward her.

Before Lila could say another word-

Damon leaned down and silenced her with his lips.

The kiss was brief but firm.

When he pulled away, he looked completely satisfied.

“Then I shall take my leave,” Damon said casually.

And just like that-
