Chapter 79

Lila had finally come to a conclusion she could no longer ignore-Damon had never intended to go through with the divorce.

For weeks, he had continued to delay. There was always an excuse, always something that needed “more time.” At first, she had believed him. But now it was painfully clear that the delays were deliberate. Damon was simply dragging the process out.

And Lila was done waiting.

The next morning, she returned to the place where she knew she could finally take control of the situation- Jade’s law office.

The receptionist greeted her politely before guiding her toward Jade’s private office. When Lila stepped inside, Jade looked up from the documents spread across her desk.

“Lila,” Jade said with mild surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.”

Lila closed the door behind her and walked forward with steady determination.

“I need your help,” she said. “I want you to represent me.”

Jade leaned back slightly in her chair, studying her expression. “Represent you… for what exactly?”

“For my divorce,” Lila replied without hesitation. “Damon has been delaying it for too long. I don’t want to wait anymore.”

For a moment, the room fell silent.

Then Jade slowly nodded.

“If that’s what you’ve decided,” she said, pulling a folder from her drawer, “I’ll take the case.”

Relief flickered briefly across Lila’s face.

Within the hour, Jade had already begun preparing the legal paperwork. Documents were printed, signatures were carefully placed, and every detail was reviewed with professional precision.

Once everything was finalized, Jade neatly stacked the papers together.

“I’ll file this with the court today,” she said. “Once it’s processed, Damon will receive official notice.”

Lila nodded.

This time, there would be no more delays.

Several days later, a sealed envelope arrived at Damon’s residence.

“This came from the court,” Simon said.

:

Damon glanced at the envelope before opening it. His eyes scanned the document slowly.

A divorce petition.

For a few seconds, the room was silent.

Then Damon suddenly let out a quiet laugh.

Instead of anger, amusement appeared on his face.

“So she finally made her move,” he said, leaning back comfortably in his chair.

Simon folded his arms. Unlike the others who worked for Damon, Simon was not just an employee—he was Damon’s trusted friend and personal lawyer.

“What would you like me to do?” Simon asked.

Damon tapped the paper lightly against the desk.

“Prepare for it,” he said calmly. “And make sure the proceedings don’t move forward too quickly.”

Simon raised an eyebrow slightly.

“You want to delay it?”

“If possible,” Damon replied. “Or better yet… see if you can pull a few strings and have it invalidated.”

A faint smirk appeared on Simon’s face.

“I’ll see what can be done.”

Damon nodded, completely unconcerned.

If Lila thought this divorce would be simple, she was very mistaken.

Meanwhile, the news traveled quickly through the household.

Maddy heard about the divorce filing later that afternoon.

Instead of shock or concern, her reaction was the complete opposite.

Her eyes lit up, and a pleased smile slowly spread across her face.

“So it’s finally happening,” she murmured happily.

For her, the divorce wasn’t bad news.

It was exactly what she had been waiting for.

Simon decided it was time to handle the situation personally.

The next afternoon, he stepped out of his car and walked toward the tall glass building where Jade’s law office was located. His movements were calm and unhurried, as if he had all the time in the world.

Inside, the receptionist looked up in surprise when the tall, well-dressed man entered.

“Good afternoon, sir. Do you have an appointment?”

Simon offered a charming smile.

“I’m here to see Jade.”

Moments later, he stood at the doorway of Jade’s office.

Jade looked up from her desk-and immediately froze.

A soft gasp escaped her lips.

Standing at the doorway was a man who looked like he had stepped straight out of a magazine. Tall, confident, and leaning casually against the frame with an easy smile on his face.

“Simon…?” she whispered in disbelief.

He straightened slightly, his smile widening.

“Hi, Jade.”

Jade quickly stood up, trying to regain her composure. A faint blush spread across her cheeks.

“Sir Simon,” she corrected herself nervously. “What can I do for you?”

Simon chuckled softly as he stepped into the office.

“It’s been years since we’ve seen each other,” he said smoothly. “You don’t have to call me sir.”

Jade looked both surprised and slightly flustered.

Simon had always been like this-effortlessly charming. Flirting seemed to come to him as naturally as breathing.

“I just thought I’d stop by and say hello,” he continued. “But now that I see you again… I’m glad I did.”

Jade felt her face grow warmer.

Before she even realized it, Simon had already suggested dinner.

That evening, Jade found herself seated at a quiet, elegant restaurant.

Soft lighting reflected off crystal glasses, and the atmosphere was calm and intimate.

Simon pulled out her chair for her before taking the seat across the table.

“So,” he said, his tone casual as he poured her a glass of wine, “what’s been keeping you busy these days, Miss Jade?”

The way he said her name made Jade blush again.

“Just work,” she replied carefully.

Simon rested his elbow lightly on the table, watching her with an amused expression.

“What kind of work?”

Jade smiled politely, though there was a hint of professionalism in her voice.

“I’m afraid I can’t disclose my activities. Client confidentiality.”

Simon chuckled softly.

“Of course,” he said easily. “A lawyer’s code.”

He didn’t press further.

Instead, he smoothly shifted the conversation-stories from the past, light teasing, playful compliments. Simon had always known how to keep someone engaged, and tonight he used that skill effortlessly.

Jade found herself laughing more than she had in months.

Time passed quickly.

Glasses were refilled, desserts arrived, and the conversation never seemed to run dry.

What Jade didn’t realize… was that Simon knew exactly what he was doing.

He had no intention of learning her case directly.

Instead, he was making sure she stayed occupied long enough.

And when the night grew late, Simon casually suggested continuing their conversation elsewhere.

Another drink.

Another place.

Another hour.

Jade agreed without hesitation, completely unaware that the charming man beside her was not only Damon’s closest friend-

but also the lawyer working to stop the very divorce she had just filed.

By the time the night ended, one thing was certain.

Jade would not be appearing in court tomorrow.
