The Wife He Never Meant to Love (Lila and Damon) novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

The mansion was unusually quiet that afternoon.

Lila walked through the long hallways, checking the rooms one by one.

But Jasper was nowhere to be found.

She paused near one of the tall windows, staring out at the distant trees surrounding the property.

Two days.

Only two days left before the people on the phone would come for her.

If everything went as planned.

But she still needed a safer place to hide inside the mansion-somewhere Jasper wouldn’t think to look.

After checking the lower floor, Lila quietly returned to the study.

Her heart pounded as she slipped inside and closed the door behind her.

She moved quickly to the desk and retrieved the phone.

Her fingers trembled as she dialed.

The line rang once.

Twice.

Then it connected.

“Ina?” Lila whispered.

“Oh my gosh, Lila!” the voice on the other side burst out. “Where have you been? Is it true that you and Jasper are getting married?”

Lila’s stomach dropped.

“No, no, Ina,” she said quickly. “That isn’t true.”

“Oh… I was so excited when I heard the news,” Ina continued breathlessly. “You said you were getting married again! I don’t really know that Jasper guy, but Mark said he’s the one who helped you and Integer Technology secure suppliers and investors.”

Lila felt a chill crawl down her spine.

“No,” she said firmly. “Jasper was the one sending those messages. Not me.”

There was a pause on the line.

“Ina… listen carefully,” Lila said, lowering her voice. “No matter what messages you receive from me—don’t believe them. It wasn’t me sending them.”

“Ina, are you okay?” she added quickly.

“I’m fine… but Lila, are you okay?” Ina asked, her voice suddenly worried.

“For now, I’m okay.” Lila replied quietly.

“Please don’t tell my brother where I am. And tell him something important.”

“What?”

“Tell him not to trust Jasper,” Lila said. “Or anyone connected to him. Do you understand?”

“Yes… I understand,” Ina replied softly.

“And Ina,” Lila added, her voice trembling slightly, “if you notice any suspicious men around you or around Mark… call….Damon.”

Ina inhaled sharply.

“Tell Margaret…” Lila continued, her voice breaking, “tell her I’m sorry for being so foolish.”

Her eyes filled with tears as the weight of everything pressed down on her.

For the first time since arriving at the mansion, Lila felt how truly alone she had been.

Lila slipped the phone back into the drawer and closed it carefully.

Taking a steady breath, Lila Blackthorne opened the study door and stepped into the hallway.

She froze.

Jasper was standing there.

His hands were in his pockets, his posture relaxed-but the smile on his face was unsettling.

As if he had been waiting.

“Just looking for something?” Jasper asked calmly.

Lila forced herself to breathe normally.

“I was just checking if you had any interesting books,” she said, trying to sound casual.

Jasper tilted his head slightly.

“And did you find any interesting book?” he asked, slowly stepping toward her.

The quiet sound of his footsteps echoed in the hallway.

“No,” Lila answered quickly. “I didn’t.”

She gave a small apologetic smile.

“Sorry for not telling you ahead of time.”

Before he could say anything else, she turned and walked away.

Jasper didn’t follow.

He simply stood there, watching her back as she disappeared down the corridor.

His eyes darkened slightly.

Inside the guest room, Lila quickly locked the door.

Her hands moved fast.

She slipped the small phone inside her bra, pressing it securely against her chest. Then she lifted the edge of her dress and tucked the small gun against her thigh, adjusting the strap carefully so it wouldn’t be visible.

Only then did she allow herself to sit down.

Her heart was still racing.

Across the city, Ina rushed out of her office.

She barely waited for the elevator before marching straight down the hallway toward another office.

She burst inside.

“Sir-it’s Lila!” Ina cried.

Simon looked up in shock.

“She’s in danger. Please help my foolish friend,” Ina begged, tears streaming down her face.

Simon stood immediately.

“Calm down,” he said gently, guiding her toward the couch. “Tell me everything.”

Still sobbing, Ina began explaining everything Lila had told her.

Neither of them noticed the figure standing just outside the slightly open door.

Listening.

Maddy.

A slow smile spread across Maddy’s face.

Lila was still alive.

“Don’t let her come back,” Maddy murmured quietly to herself as she turned and walked toward the elevator.

The doors closed behind her.

Later that evening, Simon brought Ina to the gates of the Blackthorne Estate.

Inside the grand living room, Ina could barely stop crying.

“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry,” she said repeatedly.

Margaret Blackthorne watched her carefully from across the room.

Her expression remained calm.

But her sharp eyes studied every word Ina said.

That evening in Bellair City, Maddy was in an unusually good mood.

Whatever Jasper had done before, she chose to forgive him-for now. In her mind, none of it mattered

anymore.

She picked up her phone and called Daven.

“Come to the penthouse,” she said softly.

He didn’t refuse.

Hours later, inside the luxurious penthouse in Bellair City, the two of them collapsed into bed after a long night of reckless passion.

The room was quiet.

They slept soundly.

Until-

The bedroom door suddenly burst open.

Heavy footsteps filled the room.

Before Daven could even react, rough hands grabbed him and dragged him straight out of the bed.

“What the hell-?!” he shouted, struggling.

The scene turned chaotic instantly.

Daven was dragged across the floor, completely naked, as several men pulled him into the living room.

There, sitting calmly on the couch, was Damon.

Daven froze.

:

“Sir,” one of the men asked, “should we drag the woman out as well?”

Damon didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked toward one of his men.

“Did you take a picture of her?” Damon asked coldly.

“Yes, sir.” the man replied.

“Good,” Damon said.

He leaned back slightly.

“Let her stay there for a moment.”

Then he added calmly,

“And take the rest of her clothes. She won’t need them anymore.”

Daven was forced onto his knees in front of him, trembling.

“C-can I grab some clothes?” Daven finally dared to ask.

Before he could finish-

SLAP.

One of Damon’s men struck him hard across the face.

“Keep your mouth shut,” the man snapped. “Don’t be disrespectful.”

Daven lowered his head, shaking with fear.

Damon slowly stood and stepped closer.

“I see your father failed to teach you basic etiquette,” he said calmly.

At that moment, another guard dragged Maddy out of the bedroom.

She clutched a blanket around her body, barely covering herself. Her hair was messy, her face pale with shock.

“Damon!” she cried desperately. “Damon, help me!”

Damon slowly turned his head toward her.

His expression remained cold and unreadable.

“Are you the one spreading those lies?” he asked.

“It wasn’t me, Damon. I swear,” Maddy said, her voice trembling.

She dropped to her knees and clutched his legs, as if holding on could stop him from turning against her.

Damon looked down at her, calm but unreadable.

“Then clear that rumor,” he said softly, though his tone carried weight.

Maddy looked up at him, fear and confusion in her eyes.

“How?” she asked quietly.

Damon pulled out his phone and showed her the screen.

“Simple,” he said. “Post this on your social media.”

Maddy froze. The photo showed her and Daven, close and tangled together completely naked, caught in a compromising position.

“No… Damon, please,” she whispered, shaking her head. “It’s not what it looks like…”

Damon’s expression remained calm.

“Or,” he said, swiping to another image, “would you prefer this one instead?”

Maddy’s heart sank. The photo was worse-showing her nude, tangled with different men at different time: Jasper, Daven, and Mike.

Her whole body trembled.

“This… it’s real?” she asked, voice barely audible.

“Yes,” Damon said softly, but firmly. “And I also have a video. Would you rather the video leak… or just this photo?”

Maddy hugged his legs tighter, her fear clear, but beneath it, a flicker of desperation and guilt shone through. She had no choice-she had to survive this.

“Not this…. please, Damon,” Maddy begged, her voice shaking. “I’ll do anything to clear the rumors, but please… don’t make me post this.”

Damon looked at her silently for a moment.

“Anything I ask?” he said quietly.

“Yes, Damon… anything,” Maddy whispered, tears brimming in her eyes.

He handed her a document.

“Give this to Mike. Make him sign it,” Damon said calmly.

Maddy opened the paper with trembling hands. Inside was the agreement: Foster Technology would become a subsidiary of Integer Technology, and all of Mike’s rights and shares would be transferred to Mark.

“Do you think he’ll sign this?” Maddy asked nervously.

“Make him sign,” Damon said coldly, his eyes sharp.

Maddy nodded, swallowing hard.

Damon reached over and tapped his phone.

“There,” he said, showing her the screen.

The photo of her and Daven-tangled, intimate, half-naked-was now posted publicly.

Maddy’s hands froze mid-air. Her stomach twisted. She looked up at Damon, fear and regret clear in her eyes.

“You… you’ve made it public,” she whispered.

Damon’s expression didn’t soften.

“Yes,” he said simply. “And now, everything moves forward. It’s up to you to fix what you can.”

Maddy’s heart pounded. She knew her next steps would decide everything-but for the first time, she realized she was completely at Damon’s mercy.
